Arc Type: Standard
Arc Name: Sworn Brothers
Arc Tier: 2
Sea: East Blue
Island: Orange Town
Arc Description:

Beginning:

It had been exactly one month.

A month after his father, One-Eyed Akio and his crew had been sunk and killed out on the sea. Naroshi was a six year old boy, struggling with grief. He didn't speak for two weeks after, and didn't leave his home for three. It took the mourning of his new guardian, Ushio to get him to snap somewhat back to reality. The young boy didn't really have much of a clue of what he was feeling, but he knew one thing for sure. He missed his father. He missed his friend. Without him, he felt lonely, like there wasn't anyone in the world who was there for him. He knew deep down that Ushio cared for him greatly, but to him it wasn't the same as having Akio around.

Despite his depressive state, one day he managed to get up and out on his own two feet. He remembered the conversation that he'd had with his father, just days before his death. Telling him that he wanted to follow in his footsteps by becoming a pirate, and Akio asking him to fulfill his dream to bring peace to the seas. While young, Naroshi knew that this was what he wanted to do. He couldn't follow in his father's footsteps if he spent the entirety of his youth feeling sorry for himself. One day, somewhat late in the morning, he got up out of bed, set on going back out towards the Outskirts of the town to continuing the training his father had given him on his own. He was still feeling a tad bit gloomy as he left out from his room, and headed down his set of stairs towards the front door.

"Naroshi? Is that you?"

Naroshi heard Ushio's calm, questioning voice from the second floor of which he had just come from. he turned around sluggishly, as though he were uninterested in an interaction with her. He saw her standing at the top of the staircase, a slight look of worry upon her face. Naroshi made eye contact with her, but didn't respond to what she'd initially asked him. To avoid a fleshed out silence between them, she spoke once again.

"Where are you going?"

He was hesitant to answer, but then thought it would be disrespectful to ignore her a second time.

"I'm going out into the Town. I'm going to go and play with my friends."

He was lying of course, but he figured that she might attempt to keep him away from going out to train on his own. From his understanding, this woman knew his father and his lifestyle as a pirate. She was close with him too. The only reason that she even took Naroshi in was to appease Akio's desire of him having a normal life as a child. Knowing that Akio died due to being a pirate, she'd probably try as hard as she could to keep Naroshi from going down the same path.

"Oh, okay. Well, don't go too far out into town, and make sure to get back before it gets too dark out. Okay?"

"Okay. Goodbye."

Giving off his clearly disinterested tone, he turned back around towards the door, opening it and preparing to leave.

"Naroshi?"

Naroshi slightly turned his head to face Ushio.

"Yes Mam?"

"I know that....... I know that this is hard on you. Losing your father isn't something that you should go through at you're age. I know that you're smart, and strong, but you don't have to bottle up your feelings. You can always talk to me. I'm here for you. Okay?'

Due to Naroshi's grief, he'd really wanted to dismiss her attempt to get closer to him. Despite his desire to do so, he could hear in her voice that she had been genuinely sincere. She cared. Most people didn't care about him. He wouldn't let that kindness go unnoticed. He gave off a slight smile, and then responded.

"Okay. Thank you, i appreciate what you're doing for me."

She smiled back to him, nodding. Even though he'd been young at the time, he could tell that she was feeling just as bad as he was. With the positive exchange between the two now done, he turned around, and started out of the home and onto the streets of Orange Town.

There was a heavy influence in Orange Town from Marines, and thus an above average level of marine activity within the town because of it. Nothing extremely out of the ordinary, just a few low level marines patrolling around the town at times. Part of Naroshi wanted to hate them. Marines. All of them. They were the people who killed his father and all of the nice men in his crew. Part of him also knew that the grief was making him feel that way, and that hating marines wasn't what his father would have wanted.

Naro made his way further out into the village, passing a few groups of people by as he did so. He wasn't really worried about any of them, and tried to pretend that he was alone. It was easier for him to deal with his emotions that way.

After walking for a while, he made it towards the edges of the town. Right down the street he had currently been on were the docks. The sea that led directly out into the rest of the East blue, and towards the other blues around. Goosebumps immediately appeared on his arms and legs, and he felt a strange pit in his legs and stomach. It was going to take a while for him to be able to move near the Docks. A long while. On the right hand side of the end of the street, there was an opening that led directly into a tiny forest, holding room for a group of several trees. That was where he'd continue his training. He nodded to himself, and then ran down the street, towards the opening in the trees. He ran past a small group of children as he did so, who all focus themselves on where he was going. He was too eager to continue to care, and practically didn't even notice them.

He made his way down the street, and into the entrance through the trees. He stopped about a few dozen meters into the forest, looking around at what were extremely tall trees for the boy. After all, he was barely 3 feet tall. Naroshi stared directly up at the tree in front of him. It looked like a good place to start. He brought his left arm straight forward, his right down at his side, and his left leg placed directly out in front of his right one, in fighting position. Just like his father taught him.

"Is this that pirate's kid?"

Naroshi turned around to see three boys, the same that had seen him running into the forest, fourteen meters behind him. They were lined up side to side. The one farthest to the left was short, and chubby. He wore a striped shirt, and rugged shorts, and had a short hair cut. he was blonde, and physically larger than the other boys. The one farthest to the right was extremely slim, and had an abnormally large head. He was of moderate height for his age. The one in the center was the tallest, about middle weight. Not too fat, not too skinny. He was the one who had spoke before.

"What's it matter to you?"

"It's definitely him. He looks like those other dirty pirate criminals."

Even though the boy hadn't directly said it, he may as well have been talking directly about Akio. In Naroshi's mind, insulting pirates was like insulting his adoptive father, and that wasn't something that he'd tolerate. He managed to keep a somewhat level head, holding his head down and clenching his shaking fists to keep himself from swinging on the boy. he said nothing, trying to keep himself calm.

"Aww look at him Chisoki, i think you pissed him off."

"Who cares? If he tries anything i'll just go get one of the marines. They won't take kindly to pirate scum bothering us. In fact, they might get rid of him just like how they did his fathe-"

Before he could finish speaking, Naroshi completely snapped, charging forward towards the three, and landing a punch on the boy who ran his mouth. He connected, landing a blow with one of his small but heavy fists on the boy's lip, and then sent him toppling backwards. Naroshi sat up straight on top of the boy, delivering blow after blow on the boy's face.

"Don't talk bad about dad!"

After managing to connect three more blows, he was pulled off by the chubby boy, and had both of his hands held behind his back. The extremely slim boy then repeatedly punched him, over and over. The boy who had endured the barrage of attacks from Naroshi slowly got up, his lip beginning to swell and blood slightly leaking from his mouth. He appeared to be angry, breathing heavily, eager to pay Naroshi back for the damage he'd done.

"I'll make you pay for that. Hold him back!"

Naroshi struggled repeatedly, but the weight of the chubby boy and the slim boy holding a grip upon him was too much for his little body to fight off. They held him up, the slim one tightly gripping his legs, the chubby one maintaining the grip upon his arms so he couldn't struggle. There was no getting out of this one. He was going to have to take this beating in full

Arata Kutsu

Arata Kutsu
Ling Kutsu, a forty year old female whose appearance had seen better days thanks to constant stress, as evidenced from her graying hairs and the winkles appearing upon her face, would hear a few strong knocks on the door to her home. Quickly, she would place the dishes she was currently washing back in her sink, where she would dry off her hands and hurry to the door, where she would open it only to be taken by surprise at what her gray eyes had seen. Her son, Arata Kutsu, would be standing in front of a marine soldier that had a light bruise upon his face. His strong left hand would be gripped around the back of the boy's neck, restraining him from any chance of escaping. "Mam, is this your son?" The Marine would ask as Arata began to try to pull the hand off of his neck, only for the grip to tighten slightly more. Arata would look up at his mother with a defiant expression on his face, showing no clear regrets for whatever it is he had done. His mother did notice that his right knuckles were a red color, almost as it they had collided with something.

"Yes, sadly, he is. I'm sorry for any trouble he caused you, sir. I'll make sure he'll learn his lesson." She quickly said as she, with haste, rushed Arata into her home after the Marine released his tight grip for her. "Mam, wai-" The door would already be closed, however, and Arata's mother, whom of which hid her growing anger beforehand, let out her fury on him. "You always get into trouble, time and time again! What?! Do you want to be like those... those criminals out on the sea? Do you want to be arrested or even worse? Do you want to be like you fath-" Quickly the stressed, aged female would smack Arata across the face before continuing on as a means to change the subject without him taking notice. "Doing... this, this is what brings dishonor to our family as a whole, Arata. This dishonor is exactly why we had to leave our previous home in the first place. Please, you have been causing all this trouble and have been acting out for long enough. Just please... Snap out of it!" She finished, saving the rest of her scolding of him for later. She would turn him around and direct him to his room, where he would silently go, a light red, hand-shaped mark upon his left cheek from where she slapped him.

Arata was more than used to this sort of thing, however. He had a past of causing trouble, which expanded from pranks to full out attacking someone like he did this Marine, and it would all always end with him returning to his constantly angry mother, where he would take some kind of punishment and move on. Generally he would serve his punishment, though he felt like he had to go out today, for some sort of reason. It was a feeling that, if he didn't, he would miss something important. The eight-year old knew how to lock and unlock windows at this point in age and, by doing just that, he would climb out, landing on the stone within an alleyway outside. He didn't care much for his mother, as every time he had gotten himself into trouble she would always mention dishonoring his family. If one does one thing, they dishonor their family, if they do another, they dishonor their family. While Arata held no grudges against his family as a whole, which is evident from the rather large, weighted pendant around his neck, though his own mother was a different story.

Arata knew that he was an accident and his mother did little to show any true love she had for him. Sure, she took care of him and faked it, but that was all it was; a farce. Whenever he would get into trouble, her true colors would show that she was only concerned for her family's standing in society itself, while he was just another means of helping honor it. Now, having left his home, where his mother most likely wouldn't notice until it was too late, the gray t-shirt wearing young male with tan shorts on would make his way out of the alley and back onto the streets, where he would quickly run away from his home, heading across and down the street until he would slow down and begin walking around. Most of the time the other kids didn't wish to be around him due to what usually ends up happening, so Arata wouldn't have a lot of people that was really on friendly terms with him, though it also worked out in his favor that he wasn't nearly as picked on as the average child, either. They knew he could fight, so generally, after reminding them a few times, they knew to generally just stay away from Arata completely, not wishing to get hurt.

He would think about what his father may be like, since his mother hated the bastard so much. He always figured the man had abandoned his family to go do whatever it is he wished at sea, or to find a family he actually liked. Either way no matter what, to the young, pale skinned, gray haired kid, his father was a worthless bastard and nothing more. Arata hated many things in this world, but his dad was near the top of the list and he would almost always decide on killing him if they ever met as payback for all the times he wasn't there.

The young male continued down the street, his head down and hands in his pockets. He would hear small whispers around him coming from the few people that noticed him. "It that who I think it is...?" "Yeah, that's the delinquent." "Why doesn't he just stay home, where he can't ruin anyone's day?" These voices would say to one another quietly, though the boy can pick up on them. He wasn't surprised that some of the townspeople most likely thought of him as some kind of bad luck charm at this point, as seemingly whenever he goes outside, he always ends up making something worse, either by accident or on purpose. These quiets voices annoyed him, however, almost to the point where he was fuming. Soon enough, he heard someone say "He should just be locked up forever already. He's a waste." which made him snap. Looking at the adult male that said that with grey eyes full of hatred, Arata would yell at him "Say that to my face so I can kick your ass, idiot!", taking the man off guard, which was all Arata needed to bring his knee upwards, hitting the older male in the groin before running off.

Running away from the scene, Arata would take various twists and turns through the alleyways until he ended up closer to the docks, where he would see patrolling Marines. He always hated Marines himself. These people that think they're what's best for everyone. Arata couldn't stand the self righteous act these uniformed people would put on as a means to push their authority on others. It was disgusting. He already knew that when he grew up he would most likely fight against the Marines. Whether as a Pirate or as one of the rumored Revolutionaries that have been popping up lately, he didn't know, but one day, he would be their worst nightmare, he knew that much already. Glaring at them before one of them saw him, which caused him to turn his head away in order to avoid eye contact, Arata would continue on past them, moving on so he can find something to do.

Soon enough, the boy would reach the docks, where he would spot another boy, a younger one, seemingly, that would just stand there, looking at the sea though not moving. "What in the heck is that kid doing?" He would say to himself as the boy then seemingly nodded to himself before running off to the end of the street, past a group of kids Arata already had known were delinquents, just like him. He would see them go from talking to one another to being focused on the younger boy like a group of sharks that detected a bleeding prey. After they placed their focus on him, they would soon afterwards follow him down the street and towards the forest. Arata, knowing exactly what was going to happen, would tail from far behind, hoping to not be seen.

Arata would watch from a distance as the three confronted the kid that seemingly stood barely at three feet tall, obviously using their larger sizes and numbers in order to intimidate him. Although he was far enough away to not be directly seen he could hear the three as they mocked the kid for being the son a pirate, along with mocking him when the kid ended up getting pissed off as well. To Arata's surprise, the kid could hold his own, as he charged and began punching out one of the three kids, wailing on him as he was on the ground after knocking him down and straddling him. The chubby one of the group would quickly restrain the kid, however, as the extremely slim one of the three began punching the kid over and over again. The one that the boy had beaten up had gotten back up, and Arata knew he would have to intervene, as he can't stand by while these bastards would team up on a little kid.

Taking off his green pendant, which was heavier than a normal one due to the fact it was made of metal, Arata would hold it in both of his hands as he ran forward towards the four, coming up from behind the first, where he held the pendant above his head and brought it crashing down, aiming for the injured kid's skull. The other two kids would tell him to look behind him, though it would be too late, as right when he did, Arata's pendant collided with his forehead, breaking the skin for sure and knocking the already injured boy down again. He would quickly put the lightly-bloodied necklace back on, glaring at the other two bullies with his fists up. "Go ahead, call the Marines, I'll kick all of your asses!" He yelled as he ran towards the chubby one, attempting to land his right fist hard into his face.

Naroshi braced himself for impact from the young boy, closing his eyes in preparation. His lip was slightly busted from the blows he'd taken from the slim boy, and he knew that more was coming. He thought that the boys were cowards. They were clearly older than him, heavier and taller than he was. Why did they find it necessary to pick one someone younger and smaller than them? The why no longer mattered. It was happening, and alone, there wasn't much he could do to stop it. His arms and legs were both still restrained by the two boys, and he was expecting a blow to reach him at any time now.

"Chisoki, Look out!"

The chubby boy called out towards the ring leader of the group who Naroshi had beaten on. Upon hearing the call, Naroshi opened up his eyes, and saw something that he wouldn't have expected. A white haired, pale skinned boy with a green pendant in hand. Even more surprisingly, he utilized the pendant As a weapon, holding the pendant in both hands, and then striking the boy who Naroshi had beaten directly over the head with it. The boy bounced up again rather quickly after being struck with the pendant, only to be knocked down once again by the mysterious boy. This time, the pendant collided with his forehead, digging in slightly into his skin, and causing a cut to form on his forehead. He fell back down, holding his head as a slight stream of blood began to flow down from where he'd been struck. Naroshi watched in awe as the boy placed his necklace back on around his neck, which was lightly stained with the boy's blood. He then put up both of his fists, appearing to be ready to further his assault on the bullies. He taunted them further, telling them to call the marines, and threatening to harm the remaining two. Right as he did so, he also ran in the direction of Naroshi and the two bullies, aiming his fist at the face of the chubby one who'd been restraining him. His heavy handed blow connected, knocking the wind out of the boy and causing him to topple over and lose his grip on Naroshi. Despite the grip being lost, the weight of the boy had still managed to send Naroshi toppling backwards along with him. Naroshi managed to shake himself away from the boy before falling all the way back, but his feet had still been restrained by the slim boy. he took the opportunity to free himself, using his now unrestrained left hand to deliver a blow to the slim boy's face, and his right to deliver another blow to his chest. The boy's grip around Naroshi's legs loosened, and he kicked away both of his arms from his legs as he fell back. The boy who'd been struck with the pendant twice stood up once again, balling like a baby, and holding his forehead as blood seared from it.

"You're Psychos! I'm telling my mom!!"

Tears were streaming down his cheeks, as well as snot down to his chin. He turned himself around, and ran out back towards the street of which they'd all taken to enter the trees from. After a few moments, his two friend got up as well. The chubby one was now wounded as well. After taking the punch directly from the mysterious boy, his lip was busted, and there was a small cut upon his cheek. Naroshi was somewhat impressed. This kid could definitely throw a punch.

"Who the hell is this kid? It doesn't matter. We're not cowards like Chisoki, we can kick both of your asses on our own!"

Naroshi should have known that they wouldn't have given up that easy. He looked at the mysterious kid, who was only a few feet away from him. The slim kid slowly stood back up, taking a fighting position. Naroshi took no time to adjust himself accordingly to the situation, and took his own fighting stance. The only one he'd currently known. The basic stance for Rokushiki. His back was towards The mysterious boy's and he was facing in the direction of the slim boy.

"Come on Punk, Make a move!"

Almost immediately after taunting him, the slim boy made a move on Naroshi, running towards him at a noticeably fast speed, at least for boys of their age group and size. Naroshi watched his movements closely. The boy clearly had no training, as his movements lacked any form. This was going to prove to be a fatal mistake for him. Though he surpassed Naroshi's six year old self in weight and height, He lacked the skill he had in fighting. The slim boy sloppily threw one of his arms towards Naroshi's face, in an attempt to punch him. Naroshi responded with by ducking underneath his fist, and aiming a punch directly at the core of his stomach. His hands were little, but he was strong enough to do damage to the boy. his fist connected, knocking the wind out of the boy. Naroshi then pushed his fist further into his stomach, attempting to force his body off of his fist. He succeeded, throwing the boy back two meters, sending him falling to the ground once more.

The boy immediately attempted to get back up, and Naroshi ran towards him as he did so. His short, stubby legs barely were able to move anywhere near at the speed the other boys could, so it was a good thing the distance between them was short. The slim boy was on all fours, and in the process of maintaining his footing. Naroshi came along, kicking him directly in the nose with his left foot, the heel of his sandal connecting with the boy's nose with full force. The boy fell back, grunting aloud, and falling down directly onto his back, stunned from the blow to his face. Naroshi then jumped on top of him, landing both of his feet onto his stomach. He then bent down, putting his tiny knees into the boy's chest, and then began a barrage of punches, connecting each hit with his face. He kept these up, refusing to stop. Over and over, his fists connected with the boy. After a few punches past ten, he stopped. The boy's nose was slightly bleeding, and his lip was heavily busted. His eye was beginning to close and blacken, and tears were streaming down his cheeks.

After staring at him, Naroshi stood back up, hovering over the boy. he'd really done a number on him. He wanted to tell himself that the kid deserved it, and he did. Despite that, it didn't make him feel any less bad about it. Naroshi looked at him for a few moments, and then held out a hand to him. The boy didn't initially respond to him, but then looked up at him through his one good eye as though he was surprised. After having his gesture seemingly ignored, Naroshi forcefully grabbed the boy's hand, and then struggled to help him up to his feet. After all the boy was larger than him. After a few seconds of struggling, Naroshi helped the boy up, and then pushed him slightly towards the exit in a hostile manner.

"Go ahead and leave! Remember this the next time your friends talk bad about my father!"

The boy didn't take any more time, and ran out of the forest and back into the streets of orange town as fast as he could. Naroshi knew that was the last time he'd mess with him.

Arata Kutsu

Arata Kutsu
Arata felt the bony fist of his connect with the facial bones of the chubby one. Bones and skin colliding with bones and skin would create a feeling that's hard to describe, though Arata can always describe the soreness afterwards, afterwards when the adrenaline has worn off and left him feeling worse than before, though the high he gets during a fight nearly makes it all worth it. He feels invincible when he fights, and at this moment, he may be an invincible hero, coming in to stop the villains from picking on those they deemed weaker or defenseless. Arata in a way never liked heroes all that much, but he would like to make a change in some way, to at least have his defiant personality be helpful to someone. He watched as the fat one toppled over with his captive, both falling towards the ground, though the smaller kid, one that only seemed six years of age at the most, wriggled his way out before he could fall entirely back, where he would deliver a blow to the slim boy's face next. Arata would watch as the kid then brought his right fist to the boy's chest next, forcing him to loosen his grip where he would then free himself.

Arata could hear the boy he bludgeoned earlier cry nonstop, almost like a baby, whining about how they're psychos and that he's telling his mom. Arata was tempted to chase him down and strike his arms and legs with the pendant too just so he will remember who not to mess with later, though he decided against it, knowing for a fact that he and the young kid still had two more bullies to fight. Arata was impressed by the fact a little kid like this could hold his own. He must have had someone to teach him some things, which makes him useful in making sure they both don't get their asses kicked. A few moments later both of the remaining boys would stand up, the chubby one, which Arata punched in the face, would have a busted lip and a small cut on his cheek. He would question who the hell Arata is, making him scoff in response as he continued to say how they're not cowards like Chisoki and that they can kick both of their asses.

"Your friend got off easy. I'm going to beat the blubber out of you though, whale." Arata said as a comeback as he could hear the slim one speaking to Naroshi, challenging him. While the kid would handle the thin one, Arata would directly charge towards the fat one, where he delivered two right hooks to his right arm and gut before ducking just in time to avoid a punch the fat one tried to deliver to his skull. Now ducked, Arata would immediately weave his upper body to the right, bringing his left knee up into the boy's stomach as he would once more, this time ripping it off, breaking the chat that held it, hold his pendant in his right hand tightly. He would take a punch to the gut, forcing Arata to bend over in pain, where he would feel himself get grabbed by the shirt and shorts, getting tossed a meter away from the chubby kid where he would tumble a little until he would lay on his stomach, curled up nearly, though not entirely as his ripped off pendant was hidden underneath his body. He could feel a stomachache coming to him from the blow, which only served to make him all the more pissed.

The chubby one would move towards Arata, standing over him with a pleased smile on his face. He would grab him by his gray hair, yanking his head up until he can see his face, where he would then bring his other hand back to hit it, though as he did, Arata would, with haste, bring his pendant down on the boy's ankle with a sickening crack, causing him to fall over in pain. Then, straddling the chubby boy, he would hit him once in the face with the pendent before hitting both of his arms multiple times, holding little to nothing back when thrashing him about with the weighted metallic item. Finally, he would hit the fat kid once more in the face, this time swinging it from the left, with it before getting off of him, satisfied with the beating. He was sure he damaged the ankle enough that it would need a cast, and the arms enough that he would hate to move them for the next few days, while he was positive from the bloodied face that the chubby kid will remember, just like his cowardly friend, who not to mess with.

Having stood up, Arata would look at the kid he aided, whom of which also left his opponent a bloodied mess, though he offered a spark of kindness to the skinny one by offering his hand, which was refused at first though soon he would be forced to take it and be pulled up, pushing him towards the exit in an aggressive manner, telling him to leave, where the skinny bully would leave his fat, unconscious friend behind. "What the heck are you doing?" Arata asked the boy as they were now the only two conscious ones left. "If you show these kids any kind of kindness, they will just forget who they were messing with beforehand. Besides, they threatened the Marines on you, and as much as the Marines probably don't like me, they like kids of Pirates even less." Arata said, almost scolding the boy in a way someone concerned with them would. He must admit, he had a soft spot for outcasts, cripples, and broken things, though as much as he's trying to teach this kid a lesson, he still views the entire ordeal as quite an annoyance, especially since he knew that he will have to take the fall in order to make sure this kid doesn't get in trouble for this.

Naroshi's focus was a bit off momentarily, as his eyes were in the direction of the boy he'd just beaten as he ran away. He knew that was the end of the ordeal, and that none of the three kids would bother him ever again. Part of him wished that it could have ended differently. Without the violence. Despite his wishing, he knew that in some cases it was simply inevitable. Part of him felt like he was fighting for his father's honor, but the other part of him wasn't so sure. Was this what his father would have wanted?

"What the heck are you doing?"

It was the voice of the mysterious boy, calling out to him directly this time. Naroshi turned around to face him, and what he saw caught him by surprise. The chubby boy who'd initiated him before was now on the ground, beaten, bloodied, and incapacitated. Naroshi turned his attention towards the boy, listening to him as he went on, speaking to him. He'd went on saying that if he'd shown the boys any kind of kindness, it would negate the meaning behind the beatings that he'd given them prior to doing so. He also pointed out that they'd threatened him with bringing the ordeal to the attention of the marines, and marines didn't like delinquents, but they disliked the offspring of pirates even more. Even though Naroshi was young, he understood what Arata was saying. He also had a very evident understanding of Marines not taking a liking to him. At first, Naroshi was planning to dismiss him in a disrespectful manner. Just by brushing the kid off. Then, he realized how stupid and rude that would be. The kid was saying it not out of spite, but of caring. Concern. The list of people showing care for Naroshi at the time was limited, only to one person actually. He was in no position to brush off anyone who cared.

"Yea. You're right. I just.... I don't know. It seemed like a good idea at first, but i just ended up feeling bad about hurting them afterwards."

Naroshi took a few moments to pause, kicking at the ground in front of him slightly. He then realized that he was being rude, not thanking the kid for helping him. After all, if he hadn't shown up, Naro would be the one leaving with bruises and scars. Naroshi slowly walked forward, decreasing the distance between the two of them at a steady pace. He moved in a straight direction, so that the boy was in front of him as he inched closer to him.

"By the way, thank you. I don't know what i would have done if you hadn't shown up. You saved me back there. I owe you one."

he stopped when there was only a few feet between them, and then held his short arm forward in front of him, his hand in a lightly gripped fist.

"My name's Naroshi, but i like to go by Naro. It's a pleasure to meet you. What's your name?"

Arata Kutsu

Arata Kutsu
Arata was taken aback from the kids' agreeing with him, explaining that he felt like it was a good idea at first, to fight them, but he ended up feeling bad about them afterwards. "Scaredy Cat." Arata said silently under his breath as the kid finished speaking. It really did take him off guard though, as he obviously knows how to fight, and yet it affects him in a pretty negative manner when he does just that. Is this kid just going to grow up into a pushover or what? It's the first time Arata ever heard of the son of a Pirate being such a peaceful weirdo. Arata would notice the kid kicking at the ground before walking towards him slowly until he thanked him for saving him, that he owed him one.

'Geez.. He really is a pushover..' Arata thought to himself as he rubbed the back of his neck and head in embarrassment, not wishing to be thanked for something that should have happened if someone else was in his position. He couldn't let a group of jackasses just act like they're big and tough just because they pick and beat up kids, of course. Then, the kid help a short arm in front of them, the hand in a lightly gripped fist, confusing Arata even more as he introduced himself as Naroshi, or Naro for short, stating that it's a pleasure to meet Arata before asking for his name. Arata stared at the fist for a moment, wondering what in the hell to do with that. "What's this? Offering a fight or something?" He'd ask as he took a finger and attempted to lightly push it away, not recognizing the sign of greeting as a fist bump. "I'm Arata. What were you doing out here, anyways?" He would ask Naro, genuinely curious about why he suddenly ran tot he woods in the first place.

Naro
Naroshi hadn't noticed as first, but Arata was seemingly mumbling to himself as Naro had explained his actions. he didn't really mind, he just found it weird that he was seemingly talking to himself. As he held out his hand in a fist, staring up towards the older boy, the boy dismissed it, asking whether or not it was an invitation to a fight as he slightly brushed it away. Naroshi's expression turned into a confused one, not understanding why his gesture wasn't understood.

'What's up with the kids in this Town? They're all so weird....'

The conversation continued on, the boy answering Naroshi's question by revealing his name to be Arata. He'd then ask what Naro had been doing out there on his own. He wasn't hesitant, as he felt no shame in his answer. Only pride. He put his hand back down at his side, and then spoke loudly and passionately, a smile upon his face.

"I came out here to train! My father was teaching me this fighting style called 'Rokushiki', for a year now. This is the last place he took me to train before he..."

His bubbly and bright attitude almost instantly changed as he recollected the last time he'd visited this opening in the trees, training with Akio. He was nowhere near his father's level of skill, but he still managed to adapt to what he was taught in a short amount of time. The two of them got along so well while doing so. That was one of the last memories he'd had with his father before his passing. before their talk on the docks just a few hours before. Remembering it brought the young boy's emotions to bay. Slowly his smile turned into a frown, and his eyes became slightly red as tears began filling them. He held them back, refusing to let them fall in front of Arata. A single stream of snot began to come down his nose, and he struggled to keep himself together in front of the boy. he came off as a tough, hardened fighter at first, but that was just a facade to hide his soft and harmless personality. On the inside, he was nothing more than a little boy trying to deal with the death of his father.

Arata would cock his head to the left side in confusion as Naroshi would proudly and passionately respond that he came here to train and that his dad taught him a fighting style called Rokushiki for a year so far, and that this is the last place he took him before he.... Naroshi didn't finish his answer, however. It seemed this kid had a close relationship with his pirate, and that chances are he's most likely dead, as now the previous attitude this kid had almost instantly changed. Chances are his father must have died at sea, which would explain why Naro was staring at the sea earlier on the docks, where Arata originally spotted him. Arata himself didn't have much experience with having a loving father himself, or even a father he knew, for that matter nor does his mother really match a loving parent Arata has usually seen and envied from other children. Overall he couldn't tell what Naro is going through at this moment in the slightest.

He does, however, know what pain is, what it feels like to be alone. The cold, isolated feeling of being the only one that is stuck with himself as everyone else either dislikes, doesn't care for, or doesn't know him. Arata knows what it feels like to be alone, and it hurts very much, every single day. He hates the fact that, right at this moment, with the smile becoming a frown, his eyes becoming slightly red as they swelled with tears, a single stream of snot coming from his nose, Arata could see himself in Naroshi, and for once in a long time, he felt sympathy towards another person.

He wanted to appear tough, to take his anger at the world out on everyone else, to shove everyone away and fight whoever once tried to show authority over him. It was a way to express his selfish self-pity in himself, though now that he's seeing himself in this kid before him, he doesn't know if he can quite keep the emotional barrier he has been using to push everyone away up for someone he resonated with. Clearly troubled with the fact that now he has a kid that is about to begin bawling on him, Arata would raise his left fist and bring it crashing down towards the top of Naro's head, aiming to knock some sense into him as a look of annoyance washed over any signs of sympathy over his face. "Shut up with your crying, already!" He would yell at Naro. After the attempted strike he would look away from the boy, arms crossed as he looked at the trees. "It's obvious you can hold your own, though.." He told him, his voice carrying away towards the end as the tone lowered to something like mumbling, stubborn pride taking over as for the first time in a long time, he would make an attempt to reach out towards another. "You could, y'know, train with me or whatever.." He would say in his mumbling tone, continuously looking away from Naro.

He'd pay little to no attention to Arata's reaction, as his vision was beginning to blur from the tears that had formed. He could no longer hold back the tears, and they began flowing down his face, past his cheeks on down onto his chin. His vision was so filled with tears that he could no longer make out the appearance of the boy in front of him.

He felt something connect with the top of his head at such a great force it sent him toppling forward, falling flat onto his face. He closed his eyes to protect them from the dirt and grass upon the ground, and didn't feel the pain coming from the blow until a few seconds had gone by. After the span of time, he immediately shot up, holding the back of his head in pain. Even more tears were streaming out of his eyes, and he was slightly whining. As he heard Arata command that he stop his crying, he attempted to comply, stuttering and failing at holding back his whimpers.

"W-why'd y-y-you hit me?"

he continued to stutter and attempt to regulate his breathing. As he did so, Arata would turn his back on Naro, folding his arms as he looked in the other direction. Naro was ignored, as Arata went on to point out how Naroshi could hold his own. He was sure that had already been made clear to him based on what they'd done to the boys beforehand. Was it really necessary for Arata to hit him before coming to that realization.

Naro rubbed the top of his head. A small whelp had begun to form there due to swelling. it felt like his brain was throbbing. Almost too distracted by the pain in his head, he almost didn't catch the words that Arata said next.

'You could, y'know, train with me or whatever..'

The words stuck heavily to Naro's ears after hearing them. The tears stopped streaming down his cheeks, and his facial expression took a sense of alarm and shock. This was an offer that he certainly wouldn't have expected, not from this kid at least. He was weird. Strange. Acted as though he understood regular interaction, but simply didn't want to abide by it. It sort of made sense now. He was hitting Naroshi not to harm him, but to prevent him from showing a sign of weakness. Naroshi didn't really have a clue why, but he felt a specific connection with this young boy. He exhaled, wiping both of his eyes and his nose with his forearm. He then stood up onto both of his feet, and then gave off a slight smile.

"Hey!!"

He called towards Arata, almost as a command for him to turn himself around.

"That's a deal. From now on, we can train together. It's a promise."

He held his fist forward once more, expecting for Arata to understand the gesture this time. Instead of balling it tight like a fist, he kept his grip soft, to make it appear more comforting. This would be the seal of the promise between the two. What would determine that they carried out with the agreement.

Arata Kutsu

Arata Kutsu
Arata would turn his head back towards Naro after he called towards him, almost as a command for him to turn around, which Arata had done just that, wishing to see if the kid would accept his offer or not. He would be told about how it was a deal and that they can train together, a promise, really. The grey-haired boy was already beginning to regret making the offer, though more because of the fact he now had someone to be with rather than just doing his own thing, not to mention he wasn't exactly the best either at hand-to-hand, which may bite him in the ass if he embarrassingly gets his ass kicked by the six year old before him.

He would see the small fist held forward again towards him, something Arata suspected was a sign of respect and comradely, where he would bump it or something of the sort as an acceptance to this. Raising his right hand, whose knuckles are cracked and bruised from hitting the fat kid from earlier, he would bump Naro's fist lightly, ensuring that the deal made between the two would remain. "Come on then, we should get started." He would tell the one he could only assume was now something along the lines of a friend as he would go a bit deeper into the forest, hoping to get away from where they had assaulted those kids in case they really did run to the marines.

Middle:

It was another early morning.

He woke up that day, and got ready to go out and leave. Putting on his generic, cheap clothing and his sandals, he head out onto the streets of Orange Town, heading towards the forest near the docks once again. It had become part of his daily routine, at least for the past few years. Ever since the day he'd met Arata, the two had been meeting there to train on a daily basis. Even with his training, Naroshi had a hard time keeping up with the boy, most likely due to the gap in their age, but also because of the natural prowess that Arata had in fighting. Naroshi had been training far longer than he had, but he was still an exceptional fighter nonetheless. They'd been training alongside each other for 5 years at that point, and Naroshi no longer saw Arata as another kid, but as his one and only true friend. None of the other kids his age were anything like him, and the majority of the people in the town took to keeping away from him due to him being a pirate's son, and the heavy influence of the marines in Orange Town didn't help either. Arata was the only one who didn't care about any of that, and because of that Naro had a bond with him that he didn't share with anyone else. It only took the boy a minute or two to arrive at the opening in the trees that lead to the forest near the docks. He was much older, and he'd spent so much of his free time there that the route became second nature to him. With his longer legs, he was able to move a faster distance in a shorter amount of time as well. He was now eleven, standing at five and a half feet tall, and 110 pounds. He was a bit above the normal size for boys his age, but that was extremely well for training. He walked into the trees, allowing a few dozen of them to pass him by before he stopped, reaching a small little opening that left a substantial amount of room for moving around, about fifty meters in length and width. This was the spot where the two had been meeting to train at usually. He looked around the wide area, but didn't see Arata.

"Why is he always showing up late? He knows that i'm always here early."

He thought aloud to himself, and then held his head up towards the sky, placing both hands around his mouth.

"ARATAAAA!!"

He called out his name at the very top of his lungs, attempting to see if he was already within the current area.

Arata Kutsu

Arata Kutsu
Arata had spent the night in the forest before, trying for once to not sleep in and keep Naroshi waiting. It had been years since they met, and as much as he didn't wish to admit it, the younger male grew on him like a infection would on an untreated wound. He would be snoring softly from up above, resting atop a branch around eight to ten feet above the ground in the forest. Arata would already have on a generic short-sleeved, blue shirt and some tan shorts, with two sandals resting upon his feet and his feet crossed over one another. His arms would be behind his grey-hair-covered head, with his head resting upon them like a makeshift pillow of sorts. Over the years he had known Naro he was overall impressed with how skill the boy was after just a year's worth of training. Even with Arata's constant fighting over the course of his life which had trained him, Naro, after but a year's worth of training, was able to contend with the older boy for the most part, with Arata himself only remaining slightly ahead. Outwardly, while he acted like it was annoying sometimes to have that friend of his around, on the inside he liked having a friend, a fellow outcast to hang around him and train with him. He didn't care at all if Naro was the child of a pirate, in fact that was perhaps one of the things he liked about him. All these kids of regular civilians and Marines tend to act as though they have any sort of appeal at all, as if it is cool for their dads to be out at sea, exerting authority over others and acting as if they rule everything. No, Naro was a different kid than these other ones, he had a free spirit, and Arata himself liked free spirits.

Arata's peaceful slumber would be soon interrupted, however, and he himself would wake up with a start, causing him, whom of which was resting comfortably before, to fall off of the branch, plummeting to the ground below. Landing upon the ground with a hard thud, effectively hitting his head upon the tree and causing a couple pieces of leaves and fruit to fall from above thanks to his flailing before he fell, Arata would sit up, rubbing his head. "Ow... I'm up, I'm up, you bastard." He would growl at Naro, whom of which would be but a few meters nearby. "What the hell do you want, it's too early for any of this." He would continue, glaring at the other boy with a tired look, awaiting an answer.

After calling for his friend at the top of his lungs, he heard noises from directly above him. He looked up to see his friend falling down seemingly from a branch upon the tree, coming down directly towards the ground in front of Naroshi. He hit the ground from a distance high enough to cause some pain, but low enough to protect him from any serious injuries. He watched as Arata hitting his hea on the tree he'd fallen from with a loud thud, causing a few pieces of fruit and some leaves to fall down alongside him. Naroshi's face lit up with worry as he saw his brother hit the ground.

"Arata?? Are you okay?"

No less than a second later, Arata sat up, rubbing the part of his head that had connected with the ground. He was tough for sure. No kid, no normal kid at least could have taken that fall and gotten right back up afterwards. He basically snarled towards Naroshi, telling him that he was up repeatedly and calling him a bastard. Naro had gotten used to the way Arata spoke to him, he just accepted it as their thing. He was up? did that mean that he had been sleeping there?

"You were sleeping up there. Why?"

Naroshi had never met Arata's parents nor did he know of his home life, but he knew he had a home. What reason did he have to sleep there? Arata would then ask what the hell Naro wanted, stating it was too early for his presence. Naroshi grinned slightly towards Arata, and then spoke once more.

"What do you mean it's too early? This is the time that we agreed on. We've been doing this for a few years now, remember?"

After speaking, he began to stretch out his arms, and then both his left and right leg.

"Sorry to wake you up, but if you don't mind i'd like to get started."

He then slowly entered his fighting stance, waiting to see how Arata would respond.

Arata Kutsu

Arata Kutsu
"I'm fine." He responded to his concerned friend, whom of which continued questioning him. Generally people don't start interrogating others if they have a headache, but Naroshi wasn't much of the average person now, was he? Typically, at least from what Arata has seen, the younger male wasn't the brightest around sometimes, and other times he is, which an odd mentality to have. Being asked why he was sleeping up there, the older male couldn't explain, as he just felt like doing so. Generally it was to help him not be late for once but he actually liked sleeping up there in the forest more than he did at home. It was more peaceful, and a lot quieter. Overall Arata would ignore the question, instead responding to Naro's telling him that this is the time they agreed on and that they've been doing this for a few years. Sarcastically, the grey-haired male would look at him. "Who are you? I think I hit my head too hard." He would respond, in a way acknowledging that they did agree on this time. It still didn't change the fact that it was still too early, though. Noon sounds like a better time to train.

Grabbing a nearby, strange looking fruit, which had a purplish-pink hue to it and also had strange marking etching all over it, Arata would eat the fruit, struggling to work down the terrible taste at first, though since it was his breakfast he couldn't discard it at all, so he would continue eating until he devoured it all, leaving the stem behind, which he would toss to the side. Looking back at Naro, whom of which, after stretching, informed him that he would like to get started, he would take notice that the boy took some kind of fighting stance, obviously ready to fight once away. "Are you kiddin-" A strong pulse would hit his skull, making his eyes widen for a moment as the throbbing quickly intensified, ceasing just moments later. Holding his head, Arata would lurch over, coughing and dry heaving, until he felt normal again. He knew that this would have most likely worried Naro, and, not wishing for the boy to do something stupid like go get an adult or the like, Arata would speak up. "Before you ask, I'm fine. Let's just get started, Naro." He said as he stood up, staring at his friend as he put two fists up, his body turned to the side.
