Another day at the Beach [Training] QPE7G

The Hie Hie no Mi... Linnea clenched her fist and looked on as it turned to ice, starting from her knuckles, down to her forearm. This power, this ability to turn her entire body to Ice, this was all the power she needed for even someone with a weak body like herself to make a colossal difference on these seas. But if the Legendary power of Devil Fruit ability was to be manifested through her, she had to master it. At this point, the Uroboros Captain had only begun to scratch the surface, learning to freeze enemies and objects on contact, and at least a rudimentary ability to produce Ice. She hadn't learned to mold that ice effectively yet, and even if that didn't make her fruit weaker, it defenitely made it less worthwhile to use; compared to the Archery she'd trained and expanded all her life.

This islet far off shore Ennies Lobby proved a perfect place for her next training session, and while her crewmates were off exploring on their own, she decided to enjoy this gorgeous sunny weather a bit more, and walk around the beach in a bikini. It was indeed gorgeous, a whole other kind of treasure that Linnea had originally set out to see for herself. Amidst the thin white sand, she found an isolated reef that would serve her purpose perfectly.

Once more activating her devil fruit power in both hands, she produced thin rods of ice from her two fingers, pulling on them with a faintly strained expression as she learned how to control her Hie Hie no mi. Crafting arrows with her devil fruit ability? She was a logia, said to be able to produce near infinite amounts of their element: If she couldn't make something as simple as an arrow, she was gonna have a hard time figuring out more complex techniques. This was a good way to start her endeavor of empowering her archery with Ice. Up until now she had been using the fruit's abilities on their own, as if they were just another weapon. But this was more than a weapon: Her body WAS Ice. Why couldnt she be use this part of her body like any other. And so, Linnea tugged on her finger more and more, until she finally produced something vaguely shaped like an arrow, and snapped it at the base. It didn't hurt at all like it might seem at first, even if the cracking sound was eerily similar to what the real thing might sound like.

Drawing her bow, she levelled it with a crook in a nearby rock, and took aim...

Locke had been working at setting up her workshop all morning, even before the sea's mist dissipated from the constant sunlight of the Enies Lobby area.
The sounds someone moving something heavy and talking could be easily heard from the inside of the ship.
"Let's go!..*Hrggg!!!* Move you stupid thing!" The familiar voice of the young blacksmith was clearly struggling at some of the tasks she had made herself do, as the door to the inner workings of the ship blew open from a random gust of air that managed to find it's way to the insides of the ship.
A previously unused and empty room was now filled with wood,a few flat cobble stones, and a large tub along with bags of clay and sand. The greenette could be found trying to pull a anvil into the room, not very successfully might I add.

As she pulls at the metallic object, she slips, almost dropping the anvil on her foot with a *THUDD!* that echoes throughout the area, and out of the ship to where someone could hear it easily...

"Well fine! I'll just get some of the crew to help..." she thought before heading back to trying to get it in, and after a few minutes, she got it in, but in the middle of the floor. "I'm gonna need Ike's help and guidance to get this all set up... He knows the ship better than I do."

Locke then decides to take a break from the pulling of heavy metal anvil's and walks out into the constant daylight that cursed the reagion. "How cam people stand living here!? You would only know it's night from a clock..." luckily for her, it wasn't night, it was in the afternoon. And as soon as she walked off the ship to see what the islet was about, she heard a shattering sound that made her worry.

A quick run to the direction led to a large rock, of when the greenette walks around to the front, gets hit with the fallout of another icy arrow that the pretty (Now partially crystalline) captain of the crew had just shot. Locke's clothes now had small holes and some of the spots, including a spot on her cheek, where she was hit with the shrapnel started to bleed.

Locke, out of reaction, brought her hand to her cheek, and found a little blood on it, nothing life threatening but enough to notice.

Ever since eating her fruit, she now looked at the sea with a certain longing... She couldn't swim like she used to. She didn't need to... Like prophets of legend, she could walk on water: The sea ceased to be an obstacle. Though Linnea still sailed her ship with her friends and crew mates, she did so for the companionship she could only get by restraining herself to sailing the seas the only way they could do so. She could only hope she would never come to a point when she'd actually be able to traverse islands on foot... Going back to that loneliness certainly wasn't something she was looking for in the least bit.

She pushed aside those aimless thoughts for a brief moment to focus on the target ahead. She had to make sure these Ice arrows of her would work flawlessly in training, so she'd feel confident with using them in live combat. However, in the frenzy of developing new skills in an island momentarily controlled by her own crew, she forgot to use her usual Kenbunshoku Haki, and simply fired the arrow at her target: Distance, check... Draw strength, check... Wind speed and direction, check... Angle, check... Linnea narrowed her eyes and clicked her tongue with frustration. It was a perfect shot, why did her arrow fly so far off course?! It was now pretty obvious that making ice arrows wouldn't be nearly as easy as normal arrows. Their higher weight, brittle nature, and surface tension was completely different and harder to predict. Thus, she repeated the same process: Stretch out a finger, produce ice from it, and pull. SHe pulled and pulled until she got something resembling an arrow, with a pointed tip and stabilizing fins. One more, she fixed her keen eyes on her mark and took aim, yet moments after she shot, she gasped, catching sight of long flowing strands of green hair.

"Locke?!", asked a startled Linnea, deactivating her Ice and putting her bow back behind her back. She hurried on towards the girl, noticing the heavy load she was dragging with her but paying it no mind, "Are you alright?", she asked worriedly, grabbing a piece of cloth and wiping the blood off her blacksmith's face. She looked into the girl's eyes with a loving, yet apologetic look, hoping she wouldn't have hurt her too much.

Still, her arrows were shattering on impact... She couldn't have that. Linnea would need the front of the arrows to be made of denser ice to avoid this effect.

(OOC: What heavy load? Lock left the anvil behind in the ship...)

The pain from the shards of ice that were now embedded in her skin was dulled by the cold, but the shock of the impact was evident on her face as she saw Linnea run up to her and start to wipe at some of the blood that was leaking out of the new pin-pricks in her skin"What happened?! What hit me!?" the greenette asks confused as the cloth passed her face again, the look in Linnea's eyes showed that the blond didn't mean for this to happen, in fact, she was probably training her Devil Fruit abilities as Locke had decided to walk by... "I-I'm fine." she says as she moves the cloth out of the way, so she could see Linnea better "And I'm not angry at you, if your worried about that. I guess I need to be more careful where I walk..."

As she waits for her captain to stop fussing over her, a thought creeps into her mind "Would she? no, I dont think so..." the thought seamed to dangerous at first but as she thought more about it, the thought easily shaped into a more reasonable setting.
"Hey Linnea, could you help me train? I still dont feel strong enough to be comfortable here, and I'm definitely not comfortable thinking that I'm gonna be relied upon soo..." She was afraid that she wasn't strong enough to be helpful in the upcoming mission, or even help the crew with simple skirmishes...

As she waits to hear the captains response, she soon continues her statement "You could create ice arrows that have a ball where the head would be, that way they wouldn't permanently harm me. I would be working on my dodging and deflecting skills.... hopefully."

She quickly cleaned up the wound on Locke's face, being rather glad when she saw how tiny it was and the unlikelihood of leaving a scar. Marking her face over something so trivial

as a training session was almost an insult to the Kuja Tribe's idea of beauty. Locke may not be a Kuja like her but she was still eerily similar to one, with her innate knowledge of

Haki. And Linnea had yet to figure out why she had such a talent... She sighed and smiled, relieved to hear the girl wasn't angry at her at all, running one hand through her hair

sweetly, "It's alright, It wasn't your fault... I'll keep my Haki Activated from now on."

Linnea stepped away from Locke once most of her wounds had been cleaned, smiling at the girl she'd grown to treat like a little sister. She seemed to have something on her mind, leading Linnea to cock her head slightly and look at the girl, wondering what she might have come up with now. Locke had good ideas, as she'd expect of a blacksmith whose job was making weapons. She raised an eyebrow when Locke asked for help with her training, visibly smiling. Linnea loved sparring with Locke, the girl had a gorgeous fighting style she enjoyed watching, and even if her fighting style was still a diamond in the rough, she had a lot of potential. Nodding affirmatively, Linnea pulled back her bow and formed two Ice arrows from her fingers, but made them with a blunt, rounded tip that wouldn't really pierce anything, "I can help you with that, no problem. In return, you'll help me test out my Ice arrows.", she answered winking and taking a few steps back from Locke, allowing her enough room to move normally.

Sounded like a good idea... A very good idea indeed. Linnea would first attempt to do this without relying on her Haki, not yet sure whether or not it could be done. She drew her two arrows on either side of her bow and took aim at Locke, steadying the bow and trying to account for the different physical properties of the Ice arrows. She'd look at the girl carefully, even if her eyes looked as cold as they always did when she was out hunting, there was still a glimmer of kindness towards Locke, "Are you ready Locke...?", she'd ask, and when she got a positive answer, she'd let loose both arrows aimed at her gut, "Here it goes!!"

The care that Linnea had shown Locke, no, all her crew had been touching. The Marines would have the world believe that no pirate could be be good, kind, or even remotely a force for good. They had been demonizing them for so long, that most had no choice but to act as they do now...
But Linnea's crew was different, friendly to all they came across, and protectors of the weak(At least that's what Locke had gathered from listening to the crews conversations.)

Was this the cause of this odd feeling Locke got when around the crew? It always made her feel carefree when the whole crew was together, acting like an extended family...

As the friend Locke had made agreed to the training session, and after sitting still so that her captain could finish her motherly tendency's, the greenette was suddenly scared about being on the other side of the bow of the infamous pirate "Naga D. Linnea..."

Test Linnea's ice arrows... "Sure! I could do that." thought the blacksmith as the ice that was the captains body once again formed two bolts, this time dulled to it would only bruise or break bone. Yet under that icy facade the burning heart of a friend and captain easily shone through, giving Locke more confidence.

A quick backup to at least 15 feet away and Locke answers the question "Are you ready Locke...?" with a nod and the reply "Ready as I'll ever be..."
She would try dodging the arrows without Haki first... She would need to rely on her own bodily strength before the gift whatever deity had given her, as the girl has had some difficulty keeping her breath in some spars before...

The first two arrows flew by her stomach as she quickly moved to the right, apparently Linnea wasn't taking any liberties as the next two were primed and fired almost as soon as the greenette moved! The next two were too clustered together to dodge between, so a quick drop helped the arrows miss their mark, but also left Locke wide open to the next one...

Locke, in a millisecond, remembered that she had been working on a few skills for such an occasion, where she would need to bend between strikes, bullets, or even arrows apparently.

A drop of sweat almost flew as Locke turned her adrenaline up, the world seamed to move just the slightest bit slower in her mind, giving her the oomph she needed to dodge the arrow that was already halfway to where she was.
Wind Waltz:

A second after that, the green haired girl started her "dance," truly ready this time for the next ones.

She didn't even need her Haki to pick up on Locke's unease, but there was really no way to reassure her her with a bow pointed at her. The arrows were blunted, but if they hit Locke, the impact would defenitely still hurt. Thus, being on edge and prepared as if it were a real fight might actually work in Locke's benefit. She smiled softly at the girl's agreement of helping test out Linnea's Ice arrows. The girl backed away and took her stance, ready for the barrage to finally commence. Linnea had pulled on the string and nocked the Ice arrow, being all ready to start shooting at a single word from her friend. And the moment she heard those words, the first arrow flew, aimed right at Locke's gut. And Linnea wouldn't even stop there, her keen eyes would keep tracking the greenete's speed, calculating her trajectory as she drew and fired yet another arrow.

She was was mainly aiming the arrows at her gut and shoulders, not really aiming for her upper torso to avoid cracking a rib or anything of the sort. It seemed unlikely but there was no need to even take such unessecary risks for a training session of this level. Instead, Linnea focused on those two lines of fire, every time she let an arrow fly she'd turn her hand to ice, grab her fingertip, her pull on it to properly form an ice arrow. Soon she realized this method to be far more effective at forming straighter arrows that maintained a steadier, more predictable path. She went as far as doing it with two fingers at once, cracking off a single Ice arrow before quickly catching the bow string as it recoiled and nocking the second Ice arrow, allowing it to fire a little faster.

But then, her eyes widened in awe as the beautiful dancing blacksmith kicked it up a couple of notches and suddenly blitzed out of the way of her next arrows. She was fast! Her speed was only somewhat slower than Linnea's own firing speed, but her ability to quickly speed up out of the path of her arrows was proving troublesome, "New technique huh? It's fast!", praised Linnea, before grinning slightly as she saw it as a challenge to increase her own speed, "Then...", And as she fired the next arrow, Linnea did something else. Aside from pulling on her finger, she let the bow string slip into her elongated ice arrow, and as she released her hold on the string; its own force separated the Ice arrow from Linnea's body, resulting in a much faster firing speed! She used the same technique a few more times, trying to time her shots for the moments Locke slowed down or changed direction...

The "cold stare" Locke was receiving came from the now frozen Linnea, but it was to be expected, the archer needed to be focused and prepared for her shots to hit their mark... Though at the moment they have been missing because of Locke's movement.

She heard Linnea praise her skills, yet the greenette was too focused with her dodging. Her sight's gone to an almost tunnel vision, as her pupils were dilated, making her eyes seam like a hawks. The blood in her veins was quickly being moved to restore the oxygen that was getting used even faster... Using this skill too much could cause a collapse in energy, but as Locke didn't know this, she continued to dodge the now faster arrows, but some have hit their mark...

A few had beaten against her stomach, causing pain that got through the adrenaline, then one just barley scrapes her shoulder as she turns in place... The friction manages to cut the greenette somehow, as she manages to dodge the next few arrows.

The training session continues for another hour, consisting of dodging, and being hit by arrows.
The last arrow spirals by before Locke suddenly collapses from exhaustion, her eyes returning to normal as she tries to catch her breath...

Locke was so focused... The elegance of her every movement was nothing short of mesmerizing, ultimately prompting and motivating Linnea to keep shooting at her top speed in order to see more. Perhaps it was her warrior culture upbringing, perhaps the unique traits of Amazon Lily came into play here, but like her peers, the Kuja Ranger was naturally fascinated by a beautiful fighting style. It was a dangerous dance of battle, but a dance nonetheless, and the faster and she moved, the more dazzling it became. Thus Locke's had beauty to spare, and Lin had all the time in the world to admire it.

However, more than just admire, Linnea was improving, adapting... Locke would probably noticed that she got slightly faster with each shot fired, gradually optimizing her skill, learning the best method to aim and fire these ice arrows which were all too different from her normal ones. However, unlike her regular arrows they could be created ad infinitum from her fingers instead of needed her to reach around and pull them from her bow. Aside from that, she was also closely watching Locke's dance, learning the steps, how long she could run without slowing down or stopping, what pattern she preferred to use. Every bit of information was accounted for with little more than a keen, trained instinct thanks to long years of hunting her own food to survive.

She had scored some hits on Locke, not that she was keeping track but then again she remained mostly aware of how much damage she had inflicted on her friend, to have a better idea of when to stop the training session if it came to that. The two went on for a good hour, and before long Locke had fallen butt first onto the sand, pushed beyond her limits. Well, she'd get a lot stronger after all this. Linnea wasn't that much better off though. SHe might be more resistant than Locke but she had still been keeping up a sustained skill for this long. As she approached the girl, slinging her bow back behind her back, she undid her elemental transformation as beads of sweat trailed from her forehead, down her face and chest. Linnea smiled and sat beside Locke, "How are you feeling?", she asked with a kind, albeit tired smile...

The conscious part of Locke's mind slowly returned after she had collapsed, her thoughts started to clear and the rushing blond that comes into vision helped her realize the injuries she sustained from the training.

The pain suddenly overwhelms her as she cringes, still out of breath from her ordeals. Her clothes were absolutely soaked in sweat, and the bruises and whelps she gained from training continued to sting long after... The feeling of some warm liquid down her shoulder showed that the Greenette had somehow gotten cut by one of the arrows that ran by her... Maybe Linnea accidentally created a sharp one without thinking.

"How are you feeling?" asked the captain to Locke, they both seamed to be out of breath "I'm... fine." said the blacksmith as she winces at her pain... "Though you might have cracked one of my ribs..."
Despite this however she smiled as well! She had a well working skill that managed to keep her from truly getting battered!

A minute of catching her breath later, she's close to normal, though the world around her seamed alive to the point of almost using her Haki, thanks to the amount of adrenaline that's still coursing through her. "So, how about a drink? I could use one right about now." Locke's eyes were still dilated, though not to the point they were at before, and her heart was beating about a million miles per hour...
Her cut throbbed as she winces because of the salt content in her sweat causing the wound to hurt worse. "Would you mind finding something for this?"

A calming breeze helped her cool of a little, but it wasn't doing much... Today would be the perfect day for tanning or swimming...

Linnea was truly glad to have decided to train in swimwear, even if she couldn't swim... Even her usual clothes would have felt hot and restraining under this much heat with the intensity of their workout. Truly, it might seem far more intense for Locke who had to run around and dodge all the arrows but that that didn't mean it was exactly easy for Linnea. She was still unused to controlling her Ice powers and found keeping them up to be rather straining. That was another of the things she would have to work on. Though she wasn't sweating as much as locke, Linnea was still pretty tired... Reaching around a nearby rock, she pulled a pouch she'd brought along for her little training session. She handed the bottle of water to the greenette before she dehydrated just from sweating, before taking a look at her wound.

"We'll have Mea take a look at you once you're back at the ship.", reassured the Captain, letting her drink her water while she turned her hand to ice, "I'll take care of your bleeding wounds for now."

Unless Locke seemed truly frightened at the idea, Linnea would proceed to slowly press her frozen fingers onto her wounds one by one, enough to stop the bleeding and wrapping a bandage whenever possible. Another useful feature of her Ice abilities that she'd come to learn over the past few days, she could easily apply first aid on herself by stopping bleedings and closing wounds. She she wouldn't experience frostbite, it was even more effective on Linnea herself than on others. It wouldn't take too long since none of her cuts were serious, but even then Lin would take her time and apply her first aid carefully:

"How does that feel...?", she'd ask once she was done, leaning back against the rock as she smiled and looked into the girl's eyes. Now hydrated and bandaged where needed, she should be feeling a little better...

The bottle Linnea had given Locke was nice and chilled, for obvious reasons, and she doesn't waist any time opening the bottle and taking a good long drink. The water was extremely refreshing, but the greenette saved half the bottle for her training partner. "Here, take it. You look like you need some too." she holds the bottle out to her friend who had moved to her side, a quick burning sensation was caused by Linnea freezing the wound to where it wouldn't bleed.
Lockes face turned from her lazy, energy deprived smile, to a cringe... Ice hurts worse than fire!

Linnea had managed to patch all the wounds that were openly bleeding, whether it from ice or bandages... "It hurts a bit, but nothing I cant manage." said Locke as she breathes out a sigh of relief "So was I good? I cant remember much other than arrows blurring past me..." She started to try and get up, but a pain in her chest told her otherwise. "Uhhh.. Help? I still need to finish putting up my Blacksmith stuff..."

Her mind went back to the now no-longer empty room she was planning on converting to her workshop... "I'm gonna need Ike's help getting it set up too... as I'm gonna need an exhaust pipe to the outside of the ship."

"Thanks..!", Linnea smiled warmly as she saw Locke saving half the water for her, even if she didn't need it as much it was still a nice gesture. Linnea wound up drinking a bit and saving the rest, reckoning they would need it more later on. Lin stood up to help the other girl, pulling Locke's arm around her shoulders, however she frowned slightly at her mention of moving blacksmithing equipment around. She couldn't even walk, let alone carry loads, "You're in no condition to be worrying about that now. Ike isn't going anywhere anytime soon, you can deal with that later."

But then, Linnea had another idea... Aside from ironing out the kinks on her new Devil Fruit abilities, she couldn't simply neglect her archery. Whatever enemies she'd end up facing from here on out would only get stronger the further she reached into the Grand Line. Soon, just being able to take her foes down from afar wouldn't be enough; how far she was able to hit them would be an even more important factor. With this thought, Linnea decided to try shooting distant targets, handing Locke a pair of binoculars from her pouch and asking her

"Hmmm... Think you can walk up that hill with me?", she turned to her green haired friend with a curious smile, nodding towards a hill deeper into the island. From there they'd be able to see anything else on the small islet, which couldn't be more than 3 kilometers across. If the girl agreed, Linnea would Locke towards the taller hill, where she planned on testing the limits of her sharpshooting ability, smiling confidently and issuing a challenge, "Pick a target... Any target.", Linnea asked her blacksmith

Though one or more of the blacksmith's ribs had been cracked, she manages to stand up with her friends help. "Yeah, I guess not... But I want to be able to help the crew as soon as I can." says with a pained grunt as she stands, arm over the blond's shoulder and pain shooting through her torso.
"You cant fuss at me for wanting that at least, right?"

A few minutes of standing up helped her regain her balance as her friend started to get that usual smile when thinking up new ways of going about things... one of the many things about Linnea that made Locke worry, was it good or bad ideas being cooked up in there?

Despite this Locke thought
"I sure am glad I met you when I did... A while later and I could have been in the bottom of the ocean by now." but the greenette was confused as the ranger she was hanging onto (literally) pulled out a pair of binoculars "Uh.. I think so, but why?" she replies to her captain as she hobbles from the pain up the seemingly mountain ahead.

Once they reached the top, she couldn't think of anything other than "Am I gonna have to run down this thing now!?"
The reasoning behind Linnea dragging her up here started to be realized as she was told to pick a target... "Okay... ummm." the greenette scanned the Islet with the binoculars, thinking on how to test her friends sharp shooting... "How about that old tree on the, uhhh, left, towards the ship?"
