Baratie & Bickering

What a delicious meal! The Baratie was definitely not overrated in terms of the quality of their food! Perhaps, they could have used a few new additions to the wait staff, but other than that, she'd had a fine meal. The others seems to still be plowing through their dishes, though in their defense they'd all had meat in their entrees. Reinaka slide her lap napkin onto the plate and leaned back in her chair, satisfied with one of the best salad and tofu dishes she'd never had the pleasure of enjoying.

The restaurant was in full swing still, the hustling and bustling of servers running here and there, the chit-chatter of tables all across the expansive floor space. It was warm, people were merry and happiness was abound. It really didn't get better than this. She looked back at her friends and smiled as they scoffed down food, laughing at this and that, arguing over this piece of bread or that dish of butter. Honestly, boys were quite disgusting when it came to dinner time but if it was going to be this lively, well, she looked forward to the many adventures they'd be having.

Suddenly the doors of the restaurant flew open with a smack on either side of the wall. The sound made the girl jump in her seat, turning to figure out who'd caused the all teh ruckus. The merry sounds of conversation seemed to hush to a delicate whisper now as a crowd of men and woman came bum-rushing into the building, demanding to be seated immediately. Ugh, idiots. There was no way they were gonna be eating anytime soon with no reservation and this kind of dinner crowd.

The hostess seemed to try and explain this much it seemed, but the guy just didn't seem to be getting. All service seemed to halt as though waiting for order to be resumed before they continued. Hmm. Was this going to affect her dessert? "Ugh. Pirates.... Uh, no offense."

The steak was probably the best Owen had ever eaten in his life. Before setting sail to sail the seas and have an adventure, he had lived in a simple farm. A simple farm boy with his parents, they didn’t have such tasty meals just the usual vegetables and the occasional meat every now and then. Going to fancy restaurants? Nope, that had never happened in his entire life. So, this meal was more pleasant than he imagined. Seeing the Baratie was even more fulfilling. And he even enjoyed the conversation he had with the waiter since he failed to notice that he had been quite annoying. Having finished his steak, he laid back on his chair, took out a piece of candy and threw it in his mouth. The sweetness after a full stomach was fulfilling. He closed his eyes to cherish the taste a bit more. A loud thud was heard soon after.

Owen turned to look towards the source as quite a few individuals appeared. Immediately, the sound of chit chat was gone and all eyes were turned towards the door. The captain’s comment right after was heard, Owen turned his eyes towards her with a sarcastic look on his face. ”Well you’re the pirate captain”, he didn’t say those words out loud but those could probably be read from his face. The intruders barged in as they were received by the waiters. In an attempt to control things, a few waiters approached and tried to convince them verbally. They were probably trying to get some tables without a reservation. Soon, the intruders had pounced on top of the waiters. The pirate crew ganged up on the waiters, drew their swords and launched an indiscriminate assault at everyone inside. In the blink of an eye, things went from bad to worst. ”Oi, Captain”, Owen said to acquire the attention of the winged lady among them.

They were a crew now and he wasn’t going to engage anyone until the captain said so. Owen didn’t know her much, he didn’t know much about the crew either. However, ever since they had formed the crew, he felt a sense of camaraderie towards each of them. A pirate crew was meant to listen to their Captain, right? Or at least, it would be wrong to pick a fight without the captain’s say so, wasn’t it?

As he inquired of the Captain’s orders, one of the attacking pirate rushed towards the relaxed flag human and charged at him with a sword. Owen noticed the attacker and turned to face him but was still awaiting the Captain’s words. Meanwhile, a few others noticed the group as well and began running towards them. Apparently, these guys needed no reason to attack people. They probably just wanted to earn some name by attacking the Baratie. The ones who had initially appeared were less in number but after they began to make a fuss, some more followed after. Ten of them were running around swinging their swords while one stood behind as he looked over the entire ‘operation’. Was he the one calling the shots? He didn’t look the type though.

The world? The world never changes. One minute you can be enjoying a nice meal, and the next you're facing an onslaught of pirates that have every intention of killing you. It was the natural order of things, especially if you yourself were a pirate. Lee never thought much about what that meant for him. Piracy, in it's purest form, meant standing alone, your crew versus the world. Though, he thought a better way of handling things was to face any challenge, and help anyone in need.

Reinaka was the clear captain here. She was the navigator after all, and he was just a swordsman. Her job was infinitely more complex than his. She had the whole ocean to worry about, and the sky. He worried about the opponents they may face, that's about it. Unless they were in immediate danger, he was training or sleeping. So, when these pirate assailants came at Owen, he didn't wait any longer to draw his blade.

The man who'd rushed right for Owen, as though he had some kinds of vendetta against him, clashed blades with Lee. To do this, Lee had to step on the table and lean over everyone else, only spilling his own drink. His eyes saw the glass empty on the cloth, and he looked back towards the attacker with rage in his eyes.

"Attack my crew and spill my drink? ... You must have a death wish." Lee growled, pushing away the man's blade as he lept down off the table to stand between the man and the rest of his crew.

How could a setting as peaceful as eating quickly change to a hostile scene? As much as some would be confused as the quick change of events, the Fishman wasn’t in the least bit surprised. Upon his arrival, he already made a bet with himself that pirates would show up. What pirate wouldn’t try to raid a ship that was floating in the middle of nowhere? At first, Tai thought that it had something to do with the owner’s reputation since he himself was a pirate, but guessed even that wasn’t enough.

He then watched as the fiends started to attack the restaurant's waiters. Some would probably jump in to hopefully help the staff out. Tai, however, was not one of those. He simply stayed right where he was and continued to eat his plate. His meat was delicious and he’d be damned if a group of pirates interrupted him.

“Looks like they’re including the customers now,” the aquatic humanoid muttered as he watched the villains rush towards them, “Well then.”

The Fishman first scooped in the last piece of food on his plate and then tossed it at one of the pirate’s face. While the man was baffled, Tai took the initiative and struck him. With his right arm anchored next to his side he took a deep breath and then went in for his assault. He slammed his palm as hard as he could against the glass object that was tossed at the pirate’s head and shattered it with his might.

“You guys should know better than to bother a Fishman,” he said as he watched the human fall down with blood dripped down from his face.

Apparently some of the fiend’s friends didn’t like what Tai did and about four of them rushed towards him with their swords held out. One by one, they tried to slice up the landshark as if he was their meal or something. While he didn’t like to duel in an outnumbered fight, it was another thing when he was the one being ganged up on.

Rei aka sat in her chair, crossing her legs and folders her arms across her chest. What ridiculousness! To attack a restaurant filled with delicious foods and hardworking staff who wanted nothing more than to serve you overpriced cuisine seemed poor in taste to say the least. Still, scurmishes likes these ones usually fizzled out relatively quickly so she didn't really bother to pay much attention at all. Some foolhearty, well meaning patron with a soft spot for justice and a moral-centered sense of duty would stand up and draw the Pirates attention do doubt.

Sigh. "Please don't tell that...that's....us."

A shadow hung over the Pirate Captain's head as she sat there, Tai flying past her to divert an oncoming attacker and Lee launching himself on to the table, halting a bladed weapon in mid-strike. Son of a bitch. Owen, too, had risen to his feet and shouted for her consent. Is that how it went now? If she could have, she'd have led them right out of that place. But you see... when you attacked her friends, well, you've sorta left a girl no options.

A look came over her generally warm, inquisitive eyes that spelt nothing but coldness and indifference. She stood out of her seat, taking account of the pirate to either side of her and one fast approaching. A spiral she spun on her heel and launching a foot outward, just in time to tap the chest of the pirate. The man looked dumbfounded, having expected the air to be kicked out of him. A few seconds of relief were then shattered the feeling that something was wrong. His arms dropped to his sides and he fell to his knees.

"Don't you touch my friends."

A scream tore from his mouth and alerted the other grunts that something we going array. The group came rushing at them.

"Pirates... are so... troublesome."

A sword, appeared over Owen’s head and blocked the attack headed straight for him. Knowing that there was only one swordsman in their crew, Owen knew who it was. Twice now, Lee had saved him. Immediately after, Owen retrieved his bo by releasing his devil fruit powers. Owen always kept it on himself in a smaller form, to keep things rather inconspicuous. While the two swords parried, Owen swung his bo and sent the attacker tumbling backwards. Meanwhile, the captain too jumped into action and now all eyes were on the featherweights. Currently, the only resistance the attacking pirates were meeting was from them. The Baratie crew seemed to be focused on keeping the customers safe. Perhaps, the infamous pirate owner of the restaurant was away? ”Thanks again, Lee”, he said as he stood up swinging his bo around. ”Now that you have our attention, please; do feel free to show us what you’ve got” , taunted Owen taking his regular offensive stance.

Two pirates ran towards him and he dashed towards them. The sound of metal clashing with each other was heard as Owen blocked their sword attacks using his metallic bo. The two pushed him back quite a few feet. It was obvious that in terms of physical strength, his opponents were collectively stronger. However, physical strength was never his forte anyways. Owen pulled his bo back a little and swung it to strike the left arm of the one to his right, as he stepped aside along with that movement. Fast, fluent movements were what made up bojutsu. Owen was a long way from mastering it but he was getting the hang of it. Once more, the two charged at him as he turned to face them again. His back was probably exposed to others but he was sure his crew would take care of anyone who had hostile intentions towards him.

That is how a battle brawl worked, didn’t it? Do what you can and trust that the others will do what they can. And as a crew, always have each other’s back. This time Owen swung and hit the back of the head of one of the attackers, catching him by surprise. The other one charged for Owen’s left side but he was still in the bo’s range. Once more, Owen side stepped and swung his bo simultaneously; striking the legs of the second opponent. Their attacks were fast and Owen’s movements were rhythmic. Unlike last time, he was relaxed and his attacks were well aimed. Thus they hit and produced the intended results. While Owen was elegantly fighting off his opponents, the others were probably more worried about the fishman in their crew. Obviously, Tai stood out like a sore thumb and his size was scary for others. Owen couldn’t help but feel a tad bit jealous for Tai having most of the attention.

Not that he wasn’t getting any at all, another foe was heading for Owen as he took down his opposition. ”Jeez, get a clue guys”, he said shaking his head in disappointment and took the stance to face off another foe.

Owen was quick to react, smashing the daylights out of the man Lee had just a moment ago saved him from. For being the one person he'd got off on the wrong foot with, Lee felt just as driven to protect Owen as the others. If, by some chance, one of them were to get hurt after he'd just pledged his sword to them, he'd never forgive himself. These pirate interlopers weren't planning on making that easy, he could tell that much already.

Now the fighting had totally broken out. Reinaka was involved, which he knew must be killing her. She so much wanted to enjoy a peaceful meal, but in all honesty, peace time is when it's scary. When you're at war, you know you're going to be attacked. When you're at peace, an attack is always a surprise. Pirates never really had peace time, not with bounties on their heads. Anyone with a strong arm and a thirst for cash could show up wanting to take them in for the reward. That was the cost.

Freedom was well worth it.

Lee's sword fell to his side as he looked around. It seemed that most of the attackers were being handled by the staff. Excluding the one's Owen was handling, and the one Reinaka had just rendered motionless, that only left a few to really clean up. Tai seemed to be getting ganged up on, so Lee decided he'd best help out.

Sure, Tai was strong, hell maybe he didn't even need the help. However, Lee wasn't the type to just stand and watch his friends fight. No, he was going to get involved, that's just how it was. He stepped in between one of the men and Tai, pushing on the attacking pirate to get him away from Tai and the other pirate. Some belligerent ramblings spewed from his mouth that Lee couldn't make out, so he did the only thing he could think to do, shut him up by socking him in the mouth.

His fist smashed into the jagged cliff that was this man's front teeth. Or what little of it remained. As his hand smashed into the man's face, Lee let out a satisfied chuckle. He saw a few teeth fly, so he figured the pirate might learn his lesson. Don't mess with the Featherweight Pirates.

The sound of a full on brawl echoed around the room and it was practically music to the Fishman’s ears. Sure he liked to fight in a calm setting, but what was a fight if there weren’t any distractions for you? He liked to challenge himself and that’s exactly what he was planning to do. Suddenly before he could try for an assault, he noticed someone else joining the fray. He, at first, thought that it was an enemy but thankfully the man was on Tai’s side.

“Oh it’s you Lee,” the aquatic humanoid muttered and then stood back for a bit.

It might have been wise for him to help out his new friend, but he first wanted to test something. Since he was mostly distracted with his brother the last time they fought, he didn’t get the chance to witness what the blacksmith had to offer. The swordsman was a little more than what Tai expected and that was exactly what he wanted to see. Just as he was about to make a comment, a scent of liquor was in the air.

“Jesus man,” the Fishman covered his nostrils, “When was the last time you had a bath?”

The pirate then growled at the insult that was bestowed upon him and tried to slice up the land shark with his blade. Part of it managed to nick Tai’s arm, but it wasn’t something fatal. He saw it as nothing more than a paper cut and shook it off to deliver a blow to the fiend’s gut. After he was finished, water started to drip from the aquatic humanoid’s fingers. Since he probably thought that his ally wasn’t aware of his attack, he figured he should warn the man.

“You might want to duck,” he said and then added on as he swung his hand, “Archer… Shark!”

His arm then flung a few droplets of water and at first, the pirates were baffled, some even laughed. While they mocked the Fishman’s attack, he simply grinned and then watched as the sky was painted in a sea of blood. He always liked it when humans didn’t understand the concept of his attacks.

Reinaka's foot smashed into the man's face that lay on the floor before her, frozen due to the chi blocking technique. The game was set and the Featherweights had been called out. Reinaka hated big brawls, they were so exhaustive and usually nothing ever came of them. Sure, she liked a nice spar as much as the next girl, but right after dinner? Ugh. This was going to do numbers on her stomach later. Why was she attracting so much more attention these days. She used to wander through the world without a care or a cause to call her own. No one bothered her and she bothered nobody herself. Life was simpler. A little more boring, sure, but simpler nonetheless.

She wized her way through one, two, three pirates to the back of the group where she confronted two. The seemed surprised by her sudden appearance, but resigned their fears as she was just a teenage girl after all. Reinaka smiled as they both went to punch her and clutched her arms around herself. The two men paused, watching the girl ball up and cower. Luckily, they were a vicious and rude as she thought they'd be. They continued their punch only to find some growing force stopping them from reaching her. Suddenly they were pushed back, flying through the air with enough force to break through one couple's table and another through impacted the wall with such force that it was likely he wouldn't be getting up again.

"You guys let's make this quick before this place gets damaged too much. Not to mention I'm sure if any Marines are around this place we dont wanna get caught up in the fray!"

The featherweights were dominating the fight ever since they got involved. It appeared that these were only the grunts of the crew attacking the restaurant. Owen deducted that the one standing behind was responsible for the unorganized attackers. Maybe, the top brass would enter afterwards but it was only a feeling. There was little evidence to support his suspicion. He could be wrong, may be this was it and taking these guys down would end it. No time to ponder over it though, he was facing off against another one. The angry crew member dashed at Owen swinging his sword around. Looking at his style, it was obvious that this was no experienced swordsman; like the rest of them. Owen stepped aside, letting the man pass right through with a smirk on his face. Before he could counter attack though, Owen failed to notice what was happening behind him. The moment he stepped aside, something crashed on his head and sent him tumbling down on the wooden floor. He noticed that the two from before were back on their feet. Owen’s attacks had caused some damage but obviously not enough to take them down for good. ”You arrogant bastard, you thought you had us huh? Now you’re gonna get it!”, said one of the rather unhappy one among the two. To be fair, Owen did make a mockery of them when he took them out.

The chair to his head, did cause some minor blunt damage but nothing major. He slammed his metallic bo on the wooden floor and stood back up again. Now facing off against three of them instead of just one; the two from before and another one. ”One against three, that is so not fair”, he commented in a sarcastic tone. Was Owen really looking down on them? Not really, he was just taunting them so they would get agitated enough to make mistakes. The taunting worked as the three decided that swords wouldn’t work against Owen. So they reached for a nearby table, grabbed it and tossed it towards him. Owen’s body is tall but not too muscular, rather athletic and slim so they assumed that it wouldn’t be easy for him to deal with the incoming heavy projectile. They would’ve been correct in their assumption too, if Owen didn’t have his devil fruit. Owen held out his hand towards the incoming table. The three just stared as if they were witnessing an idiot, they began to laugh at Owen. Soon, there laughter subsided and their eyes almost jumped out of their skulls as they witnessed the large table being turned into a tiny version of it. Upon collision with Owen’s palm, the table was immediately turned into a flag and its size was altered into a miniature table. ”Tsk tsk, you know the waiters here work pretty hard. It wouldn’t be right to damage the tables and stuff”, he said as he smirked at the group. They were baffled as to what had just happened.

Contrary to what Owen had just said, he threw the miniature table towards the group. In mid flight, he released his devil fruit powers thus releasing the projectile into a large table. So, the large table with the momentum of Owen’s throw crashed into all three and took them along with itself. The group travelled a few feet after coming to a halt as they collided with a wall, ending up unconscious. It was then that Owen heard a few more loud sounds. It appeared his comrades too were displaying their strengths and taking down the opposition. He turned to hear what Rei had to say and nodded in reply. It was about time they wrapped things up. ”Oi Captain, I think that guy’s calling the shots” said Owen stretching his arm and using his bo to single out one of them. He had been standing behind everyone and seemed a tad bit different than the others. Most likely, the leader of the almost defeated grunts; it was only appropriate that the captain dealt with the leader herself.

He'd managed to separate the second pirate from Tai, making it a fairer fight for him. Lee wasn't very much looking to help everyone all at once, he was just doing what he could, and this guy caught his eye. He had a sword, but he was keeping it sheathed. He figured he could coax him into bringing it out pretty easily.

"Why don't you fight with your real strength, less you're still an amateur at swordplay. I'd say you should stick to what you're comfortable with, increases your chances of living." Lee explained, readying his sword for any retaliation the attacker might put forth. However, it didn't appear he was going to do anything about it, but he seemed to agree with lee and he brought out his sword.

It was a large bastard sword, two handed weapon. Lee's was too, but he was comfortable enough with it he used it in one hand sometimes as well. He gripped it with both hands and stared down his enemy. He was a larger guy, using a larger sword. Speed was going to play a major factor here, as well as skill, and his techniques.

"Hell's Curse - Imp's Arrow!" Lee called out, bringing back his sword for a moment before thrusting it forward. From the tip of his blade a shot of super heated air erupted, hitting into the man's left eye and burning his face in a raindrop patter extending back to his ear. Lee growled as he advanced, bringing down his sword hard against the man's left shoulder, but he was parried.

"Nice trick, naive, but it'll take a little more than steam to deal with me!" the big oaf muttered, his clumsy followup made it pretty apparent that he was in no shape to be fighting. Lee didn't even move, and the guy slashed his sword into the ship's floor, seven feet to his left. Lee raised an eyebrow at the guy. All things considered, the guy was determined, but it wasn't exactly going to be a good day for him if he kept all this up.

Men dropped like flies against the Fishman’s might, but they managed to stand up to show their resilience. It almost made Tai impressed, but he himself knew the disadvantages of his technique. Since he split up the water, it wouldn’t do much damage unless he used everything he had on one person. Because he chose to handle it another way, he’d imagine it must have felt like getting sliced by a powerful gust of wind at most.

Before the aquatic humanoid had a chance to unleash another bombard of arrows, he noticed Reinaka saying a few words. She wanted them to keep damages to a minimum, but the land shark wasn’t sure if that was possible of him. He hated to feel restricted when it came to anything and then she brought up something that was worth the exchange.

That’s right… The Marines are probably searching for us anyways.

The Fishman then nodded in agreement and right as he was about to attack, he was interrupted yet again by someone’s words. Apparently Owen managed to spot out their leader and while Tai wanted to take him out so that everything could come to a close, he first needed to take out his bunch. He was just about to do that until he felt heat in the air. It caused him to quickly leap into the air and hang onto a chandelier with his free hand.

“Crap heat,” he muttered, “Can’t let it burn away my water.”

A murmur of words flooded below and belonged to the mischievous fiends that Tai was fighting. So that he could shut them up, he finally swiped his hand and unleashed three more globs of water to attack the pirates. Two swung their swords to split up the water so that they couldn’t get harmed while the rest fell to their knees.

“Looks like not all of you are all talk after all,” he said with a grin, “Looks like I might actua---.”

Suddenly before the young Fishman knew it, his weight was too much. The object he hung from gave out and collided with the ground. Mouthing oops was the only thing that the aquatic humanoid could do.

Reinaka had stopped her fair share of good-for-nothing’s that much was for sure. These guys were out of control and she wasn't sure what was motivating them to attack and destroy the restaurant. Perhaps, they were just trying to make a name for themselves, or perhaps they were wily because they had some heavy back-up that they knew would save them if they got themselves into anything too sticky. She stood back to a standing position, watching as the two idiots slide from the walls they’d impacted down to the floor in dazed heaps.

She turned to watch her crew taking care of the others and was impressed that she’d managed to find such strong, passionate friends in such a relatively short amount of time. The strength of Tai, the passion of Lee, the energy of Owen, it all swirled together into a mesmerizing display. They were quickly becoming a team, even though they had so much more to learn about each other. They would have to grow together, fight together, laugh together and, unfortunately, cry together as well. As triumphant as they felt at this point, she knew that it wouldn’t last. There were dangers and sad times awaiting them still.

She knew, like all would-be-pirates knew, that they’d eventually have to venture out in to the open sea and leave the relative safety of the Blues. The Grandline was where all pirates had to venture, the New World was where all pirates wanted to be. Was she ready for that? Were they ready for that? Before she could even think on the topic, she heard a voice crying out. It was one of the men she’d just knocked to the ground. He’d pulled a transponder snail from his pocket, and was screaming for help into its receiver. So her theory was correct. They had backup. Backup that would allow them to trash a perfectly good restaurant and then save them from the consequences of such actions.

The fallen pirate began trying to describe the Featherweights to whomever was on the other end of that receiver, but was soon impeded by a flat foot to the face. That foot just happened to belong to Rei-Rei and it just happened to send the den den flying across the room before he could finish any kind of summary.

“Now now… don’t spoil the surprise for your friends! If they wanted details then they should’ve RSVPed like everyone else!”

Rei turned to her guys who were finishing up with the other riffraff.

“Look alive, guys. We’re about have company.”
