Having wrapped up things in Water 7 Birdie needed to make a swift return to Jaya, but Asher had business on both of their behalf's in Baltigo. With the blueprints in their possession they were sitting on a cash cow and they both agreed to capitalize on it by selling these blueprints. Both men aboard the Arakhne, they began their voyage to Jaya first.

"I've been meaning to ask, do you know how to use Haki?" Birdie stood on the deck of the departing Arakhne leaning on the railing. The glow from his cigarette faintly illuminated his face in the darkness of the night with a weak sea breeze giving the stick oxygen causing it to flicker brighter for a quick moment. "I ask because people in Baltigo are good with hiding their intentions and are well known for their elaborate schemes." He exhaled the smoke as he spoke. "I know you're tough, but I'd hate for you to get robbed while holding my share of the reward." He chuckled as he finally turned to face Asher.

The duo had finished their prior engagements on the island of Water 7 and had prepared arrangements to their next destination which was Jaya Island. From there Asher had business to attend to on the isle of Baltigo where him and Birdie wanted to unload these blue prints to the sea train. Copies were already made so both men had their own copies, but the buyer wouldn't know that of course.

On the ship Asher stood, adjacent to Birdie who would smoke his cigarette as the duo set sail for Jaya Island. It was then Birdie asked Asher a good question, If he knew haki. Asher was honestly surprised by the question which caused him to blink before responding "Never tried to learn it honestly. My sister has used it once before on me but I didn't think I needed it." It wasn't a bad idea given everything stated about baltigo by Birdie. "If you're willing to share that information I'll listen" said Asher who looked at Birdie post speaking.

Birdie squinted a single eye in reaction to the cigarette smoke, before tilting his head at Asher. It was a stab in the dark, but alas he found the bloke's blindspot. "Hmm . . . I could very well be giving a future enemy a dagger for my back, but I can afford to be short sighted this once." Rubbing his chin he pondered on how to explain the concept to Asher. Birdie wasn't really one for teaching less the pupil was naturally talented, but Asher making it thus far could be a testament to his talents.

"I'm not an expert with it myself, but I think I'm sufficient enough to teach you." Reaching down to his hip, he unfastened his holster that held his revolver and gripped it with the same hand that he was rubbing his chin with. Taking the firearm out the holster he examined up at eye level it as if the object was foreign to him. "With the type of Haki I'm proficient in, in a perfect world you'd be able to close your eyes and dodge a bullet out this revolver with what little distance we have between us right now." Training the weapon onto Asher, he had the man in his sights and grinned at him. "I should explain the principles before I start firing at you though huh?".

He chuckled and lowered the weapon, then searched his mind for the words. "The basics of it is that it's an energy that everyone has residing within, but not everyone awakens or is even aware of. We'll start with the Observation Haki." Birdie stepped further away from Asher and took the cigarette out his mouth before flicking it overboard. "This one is practically projecting this haki energy outwards . . . kind of like extending oneself out into their surrounds. It's like when you get that feeling that someone's behind you or watching you. You can feel their presence before you see, hear, smell whatever it. It's a lot to swallow, but just start by closing your eyes and trying to feel out the different energies on this boat. Start small though . . ."

Although Asher knew just the bare minimum about haki he did find himself interested in it. He just always considered since he made it as long as he did without it the ability wasn't something he was "Missing out on" if you will. Birdie commented on his lack of teaching knowledge which made Asher a bit skeptical on what exactly Birdie knew about Haki but maybe he just couldn't find the words he was looking for. Birdie would reach for his holster which alerted Asher and put him on his guard because even though he conducted business with Birdie he didn't yet trust the man yet. The examined gun would go with what Birdie was saying in terms of how Haki works. It explained a lot of his past battles to him now as he had dealt with people who otherwise shouldn't have known his movements and things of the sorts. "Observation Haki?" said Asher who thought more of the applications of it. When the distance between Asher and Birdie was clear Asher had a good idea of what was to come. He knew Birdie was going to attempt to shoot at him but he didn't care as long as those bullets he had weren't seastone. Once Asher closed his eyes he would actively turn on his electrical phasing ability as a means of being prepared. From there he began to reach with his "energy" to get a grasp on the observation haki that he was learning about. Asher hadn't been one with the earth so as he tried to grasp the spiritual strength to feel around him he had ran into a mental roadblock as he simply couldn't feel what was around him at the moment.

It wasn't as hard as Birdie thought it'd be, mustering up killing intent when he rose his revolver up, the sights on Asher's head. Birdie knew the Haki better worked when someone truly had ill intent against him as if he could pick up on the venomous energy. He figured it worked the same for everyone which was why it allowed people levels of precognition. Anyways with his firearm raised and leveled with Asher's cranium the grunts aboard the Arakhne froze in silence. The only thing that could be heard was the creaking of the wooden beams and the sighing of the ocean. "Don't fight anything that you feel, just fall into your instincts." He spoke slowly as he sustained his murderous intent and lifted his fingers in a wave on the pistol grip as if they were fluttering on piano keys. Despite this the pistol stayed securely in his grip, all the fingers never leaving the weapon at the same time.

Slipping his index finger into the hole where the trigger was located, Birdie silently rested the single digit on the trigger and squeezed lightly. It wasn't enough pressure to make the lever give in and fire the gun, but he could feel it was just at the point. He remained silent as did everyone aboard the ship as they watched on in anticipation. Using his thumb to click off the safety, Asher would surely know that Birdie was about to fire. "Don't rely on your ears and other senses to react or get riled up. That's cheating, feel when it's coming." He'd wait several moments giving Asher time to sort through anything he was feeling at the moment, before finally firing a single bullet at the man's head with every intention of ending his life. Birdie wasn't aware Asher was a Logia truth be told, but he was taught by being put through a life or death situation and figured one just needed those stresses to tap such a powerful ability.

Asher stood there awaiting the impending bullets that should be coming from Birdie but they just weren't coming yet. Asher listened to the waves of the sea and he could feel them moving, it was a natural reaction to people at sea. Asher was never the type of person who was connected to the world around him except for his youth. His father had always made Asher do his training outdoors, one of the things he had the young kringle do was study what was around him as a means of becoming one with it. The sound that echoed through the air, the wind that would wipe across the face, Asher began to feel that all again. He wasn't yet feeling that "extension of his soul". Maybe he was drawing his sources wrong? It was when Birdie spoke Asher started to feel comfortable with his body and relax. The cackling wood on the floors, the seagulls from above Asher heard it all, but that wasn't enough. Asher would hear everything until the safety from the gun came off and his emotions kicked in. Asher started to tense up and then Birdie spoke, the lasting words were simple, do not use your senses.. use your soul. Asher would simply turn it off, he would notice his mood was changing as he grew relaxed. Relaxed for Asher was something totally different compared to most men. When Asher was relaxed he was angry and vengeful just as he was now. He began to think about all of those who wronged him and forced his hand in the world. For instance his "piers" for allowing him to be arrested for his "accidental" attack on the marines. They way they turned on their own just made Asher sick to his stomach. He would continue to focus on things such as this as his mind raced at a high speed. The next thought that passed through Asher's mind was his time with his opponent from the Samurai organization on Water 7, he knew how Asher was going to move and when he was going to do it. To say it was a farfetched theory to think he was using haki wouldn't be warranted. The memories that weren't more than a millisecond in the mind of Asher had come to an end as he felt the emotion.. The anger and rage he had been feeling since he came from Impel Down, it was what drove him and guided his hate. The feeling of an object coming directly towards Asher could be felt which alerted Asher to bob his head to the right. Once Asher had done that he had officially dodged the bullet considering when he opened his eyes from his state of focus he was facing Birdie who's hand was firmly on the trigger. Asher could feel everything as he looked around. The seagulls in the sky were swarming in a circle above the ship, the men who watched Birdie shoot Asher were standing there like statues everything there Asher could feel everything. "That feeling is something I never thought I'd feel. It seems my my rage and anger are the keys to my observation abilities" said Asher. He didn't expect such an easy practice. He was wondering what more there was to Haki.

Birdie was surprised Asher had caught on so quickly, either that or he couldn't notice that his eyes weren't fully closed int he darkness of the night. Regardless Birdie's bullet was dodged and a sigh of relief swept over the henchmen on deck. "Thought we'd have to redo the floor boards, god damn." They went about their business, this snide comment out of a few earning a chuckle from Birdie as he tucked his gun back into his holster.

"That's the base of it, you'll have to polish it off, cause a real killer won't let you ready yourself. But there's one more form of Haki. There's another known as Armament Haki which is more about using your own life force. It's hard to explain, but just think of wrapping yourself in that spiritual projection, instead of extending it outwards." He paced over to a hanging lantern that was posted on the mast of the ship where he was illuminated. Pulling up a sleeve on his arm, he held it above his head and then gave it a flex. As he did so the arm adopted an ebony coating to it. "This is your bread and butter when fighting Logia Devil Fruit users. Surprised you're a Marine and can't do this shit." He pulled his sleeve back down and fixed the cuff on the jacket.

"Start small, maybe a finger or something you can focus on. Once you get a feel for it, start going bigger."

Asher smirked as the men of Birdie had discussed the chances of him failing with his haki training. Asher didn't really know how failure worked so he wasn't going to entertain the thoughts the men had. They were lucky to even be in the same room as Asher.  It was then Birdie started talking about the usage of Armament Haki and how effective it was. Asher would have a fun time learning about something that could compete with logia devil fruits not named seastone. Asher would try and follow the advice Birdie gave him and proceed to play one finger up as he sat down on the boat. Asher would sit here till the morning if he had to.
