1 Shade [Waiting for approval] on Tue Jun 21, 2016 6:04 pm

Name: Shadow "A" Rino
Alias/Epithet: Shade
Gender: Male
Age: 21
Mode: Hard

Description of Modes:

Easy Mode: Easy Mode is for people who have no major interest in their characters dying. You have access to private topics, maims turn into severe bruising that inhibit the use of the damaged body part for the rest of the thread, what would normally cause deaths turn into your character simply being knocked out. However, everything isn't good for you, this also means that your character will never be able to pass Tier 3.

  • Exceptions to these Rules: Should you attack someone on Hard Mode with killing, crippling, injuring, or maiming intent OOC or IC, you lose your Easy Mode protection and may have the same done to you. May it be killed, maimed, injured, etc as long it is the same intention.

  • You cannot make private travel threads, but they can still be No Kill due to your Easy Mode Protection.

  • Also, there are also events which your character will be at risk if you choose to enter them.

  • Lastly your character can be vulnerable to death if you will it.

Hard Mode: This is for people willing to take more of a risk for more of a reward. In this mode you can reach up to T6, and there are other things available to you, like world positions. However, your character is always death enabled. A hard mode person is not allowed to make a "No Kill" thread or a Private thread. Their whole existence is open. Hard Mode is to promote a more realistic One Piece Roleplay-verse and while people are eligible to die while on Hard Mode, our aim here is not to make this a place where people meaninglessly kill. Hard Mode is introduced to promote interactive RP where people value there allies and teammates. Hard Mode is for an experience closer to Canon.

  • Exceptions to these Rules: If you are situated on your island, or your ship, you are permitted to make a private thread between you and crew members. HOWEVER, you cannot make a private travel thread on your ship, you are still at risk of invasion in those threads.

  • Protection for Private Topics on your Ship can last for a duration of 15 IC Post, afterwards the topic is Open whether you are on the ship, setting sail, etc.

Changing Modes: Changing modes is also possible if you start out a character, and realize the mode you chose does not really suit you. Unfortunately, to prevent people making the first choice without thought, or using easy mode to their advantage getting as high as they can with Easy Mode, and jumping to Hard Mode, there are penalties to both sides changing modes.

  • Easy Mode Penalties: If you're on Easy Mode, and you change to hard mode, you are bumped down an entire tier, and will have to build your way back up. Anything spent on something you cannot have anymore because of tier problems, (You were T3 with a T3 only sword, and you've been knocked down to T2), will be refunded.
  • Hard Mode Penalties: If you choose to jump to Easy Mode, you get everything taken from you that is Hard Mode only, and a tier down.

Finally, there is only one difficulty change someone can go through ever. There will be no chance to buy/trade/sell/casino a difficulty change if you decide you want to change back, ever. So make all of your choices carefully.

Occupation: Weapon Specialist, Doctor
Affiliation: Marine
Tier: 1

General Appearance:

Shade has gray metallic eyes, black hair that is usually unruly, sharp facial features, and a medium build. Shade prefers darker colors over lighter ones, and wears a black shirt underneath a black cloak, coupled with black pants and shoes. Sporting a ring accessory on his index finger; he occasionally sports a hat that is used to keep the shade off of his face, and prevents visual recognition at first sight. Being a Doctor, he carries a wide variety of medicine at all times. His scalpels are made of reinforced metal, and wont break even when under the pressure of a sword two times their size, just like Shade's will. Being raised to hate pirates, Shade absolutely disdains anyone who would help such ruffians, and will not hesitate to create their downfall. Shade took on a couple of his old mentors quirks and habits, such as operating on the beasts that he hunts, collecting their organs, and eating them. Those who stand in his path are destined to fall unless they are of course stronger than shade. Those who are weaker than him, he ultimately does not even put them in his gaze.
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 215 Lbs
Crew Tattoo Placement: Back of the neck

Personality: Shade is arrogant, reckless, and appears heartless to others. He is not magnanimous, and often uses those around him to forward his goals. He holds a deep disdain and contempt towards pirates, and won't hesitate to get close to a pirate or enemy to achieve his goals. Having a manipulative nature, shade naturally knows how to read those around him, and act accordingly; never lacking in tact even in pressuring situations, he can rely on his social skills to drive negotiations into his favor with ease. Only his crew, to whom he is a doctor, have experienced a different side of shade reserved to help those in need, which in turn corresponds for his desire to join the marines. Despite being an evil person overall, shade holds a deep desire for justice and recognition by others, be it in rank, or skill. Though he places others below him, it does not escape his attention when others wrong his crew members, not hesitating to go out of his way to gain vengeance for his crew. Shade is very vain, he places himself above anyone weaker than him, even in perilous situations. Shade is a very materialistic person, and does not hesitate to spend money to buy lavish goods. Shade follows one simple rule, obey the strong and oppress the weak.
Himself; Shade is vain.
His crew; Despite holding contempt for others around him, he tolerates his crew and even shows warm feelings for them, by taking care of their wounds.
Justice; Shade's own twisted version of justice coincidentally corresponds to his desire and need to join the marines.

Weaker individuals; Unless he is treating their wounds, Shade does not hold anyone weaker than him in any regard.
Pirates; Due to various reasons, Shade hates pirates, though he may respect their strength and unity.
Attention-seekers; those who draw attention to themselves over small matters so that Shade may patch them up, are held in infinite contempt.

History: Shadow was born on a remote island in the North Blue, his mother dying in childbirth, straight after having birthed shadow and his little brother. His father, having been a pirate, had abandoned shadow and his little brother in the small village that had been on the island. Taken in by the tavern master, Shadow and his little brother learned from a very young age that his father was a useless man, and that his mother was in turn useless as she had followed him. As Shadow and his brother grew up, they started to become more and more prejudiced towards all of the pirates frequenting the small port village, due to rambunctious behavior and over-zealous treatment of the villages women, and the early teachings of the tavern master. Once shadow had reached six years of age, the tavern master sent him off to the village doctor to learn the tools of the trade, discovering Shadow's surprising affinity to learning; leaving his little brother behind, Shadow went to learn how to be a doctor.

Shadow spent a total of three years training with his mentor, every day preparing various medicines, preparing and cleaning up after his mentors surgical experiments on the local wildlife, collecting herbs, and learning how to save people through the use of a blade and scalpel; Shadow did not return to the tavern at all within this period of time. As he lived and survived his days training with his mentor, he discovered his mentor had a certain quirk to him, sometimes when doing operations on the local wildlife, the mentor would occasionally save some of the organs and by the next day they would disappear, Shadow paid this no mind as it was a normal occurrence to him by then. His mentor had another quirk to him, whenever the organs would be gone, he would return to his hut drunk and would often regale tales of old to the young Shadow, of pirates, treasures, the grand line, the far away revolutionaries, and the heroic marines who would often oppose the pirates and protect villages like this; Shadow always listened with great interest, and even asked for more stories about the marines, as these stories went deep into the night, the next day came, and with it more training for Shadow. As Shadow became more and more experienced, the mentor sent him out to the wild to look for a certain plant that only grew in the summer, and Shadow had a total of a month to find and come back with it if he was going to pass his mentors training. Armed with nothing but a sword and scalpels, Shadow ventured deep into the forest.

As weeks passed, Shadow gradually began to develop his survival instincts, which plants are edible, which beasts are safe to hunt, and which trees served as hiding places for what beasts. Over a two week period of time, Shadow became adept at hunting animals with his scalpels and ingesting their organs and flesh to survive, improving his doctoring skills in the process. In the last week, Shadow successfully became adept at wielding his sword and scalpel and developing his body, as he hunted and killed the giant beast that stood guard over the plant he was there for; as Shadow killed it, he took great care to carve out the organs and collect them into his pack made from grass, then proceeded to harvest the plant that he had come for; with a final look at the dead beast, he turned around and left the forest.

As Shadow returned to his masters hut, he was shocked to discover that the hut was ransacked and his master was not anywhere to be seen. After exploring the ruins of the hut, Shadow found that his master had left him a note that had "DON'T LOOK FOR ME" written in blood. Noticing something was amiss, since this was indeed his mentor's handwriting, Shadow hurried down to the village to look for his brother and the tavern master. Upon reaching the village, shadow was greeted to many huts set ablaze, and many ships on the horizon, firing cannons onto the land; looking at the tavern from a distance, Shadow noticed a group of pirates leaving with his little brother to a giant ship with the flag of a red skull with black eyes on it. Shadow decided to wait out the disaster, hiding near the outskirts of the village, avoiding the patrolling pirates.

After three hours of pure torturous silence, did Shadow finally dare to move, discovering the ships had all dispersed, he moved down to the tavern to find it ransacked and burned to the ground. Feeling nothing but anger and disdain for pirates, Shadow vowed vengeance for the old tavern master, and his missing mentor. As Shadow had vowed that, he went back to his mentors hut, collected the organs, the plant, and many medicines created by him and his mentor, he set out with his trusty scalpels and sword to the docks; upon arrival, he quickly stole a rowboat from the abandoned docks and proceeded to row out to sea.

After a month at sea, Shadow resolved himself and fell to his throes of hunger, forcing himself to eat the organs that he had painstakingly saved for his master. After another month passed, the organs had been picked clean and digested by Shadow, forcing him to jump clear off the boat with a paddle and learn how to swim and hunt fish. After a year of being on the seas with a rowboat, Shadow was finally discovered by a ship, being taken aboard, the crew had asked him what he was doing out at sea, studying them, Shadow discovered they were likely pirates; so he told them he was a doctor, so they wouldn't kill him. Upon hearing this news, the pirate captain immediately ushered Shadow into the crews quarters where a man laid clutching his stomach as a puddle of blood sloshed on the floor of the quarters. After negotiating some terms, Shadow agreed to save the man.

After hours of operating, Shadow successfully saved the man from a parasite that was ravaging his organs, and even went as far enough as to stop the internal bleeding of the man, before going back to the captain to report; the captain, delighted that his crew member was saved, immediately asked Shadow to join his crew as a doctor, having nowhere to go, Shadow accepted, taking the mark of the crew on the back of his neck.

After sailing with the crew for multiple years, Shadow improved his skills further, learned how to sail, the basics of craftsmanship, and even improving his social skills to the point of whenever there was a negotiation between ships, Shadow would almost always be called out as first mate and representative. During this time period, Shadow learned effectively that a crew is a very important thing to have, but he never forgot that they were pirates, the types of people he despised most in his life. After many instances of saving lives, Shadow became drunk on power of holding lives in his hands, and began to view himself above all of those who he had treated.

After spending a total of five years with the crew, Shadow finally hit his eighteenth birthday, and he couldn't wait to leave this crew and join the marines, viewing himself as above the pirates. On that day, the crew got into a battle with a frigate twice the size of their ship; after escaping with only their lives and a badly damaged ship, Shadow was called in to treat the dying captain; as Shadow began treatment, he had a certain evil look on his face, as he cut open the captain and fixed his internal organs. After feeding the captain a medicinal pill that would allow him to remain unconscious for a period of a day a pill, Shadow weaved an intricate story about how the captain wanted to stop at a marine populated island, using the skills he had developed those five years, the crew believed him and made haste to the island, all the while Shadow kept the captain in a perpetual dance with life and death.

Upon arrival, Shadow poisoned the food and rum of his crewmates and toasted them to the captains' (Fake) awakening. Oblivious to his malicious intentions, the crew drank and ate, until finally all of them fell to the fast poison. Shadow cut off the captains head and brought it to a marine center, not wanting the bounty, Shadow instead requested to join the marines. After much deliberation, Shadow was accepted into the marines, Spending another three years training to ascend to the position of ensign from recruit.
