Asher Kringle

A slash against a post is what you heard when Asher was training. He normally used a large steel beam as his designated training partner since it was exactly what he was, unwavering in conviction. He didn't really want to train today but his body would grow weak if he treated it with such disrespect. He was confident in his ability to strike down anyone whom challenged him but he never wanted to take an opponent for granted. His sister showed him you can improve as much as you want if you are determined enough to do so. A final barrage of strikes would signal the end of Asher's training as a large scream was heard.

"KRINGLEEEEEEEEEEEE" The voice was that of Asher's current "superior" someone he could kill in his sleep if he truly wanted to. A sheathing of his sword followed by a slight turn of the head allowed for the shirtless killer to speak without words. He waited for his superior to speak as his hair fainted to the side due to sweat. "We have new marines coming in to the West Blue today. I'd like for you to greet them." A slight chuckle from Asher escaped his mouth as he couldn't understand why he was greeting people. "You honestly think I'll do this? Just because I joined the marines and left the Government doesn't mean I'll do things like this"

He didn't really care about people much. He didn't get the name Slasher Kringle caring about people. He got it from being a dastardly bastard and killing people. "Well you'll like this one. She is a scientist and a navigator" that caused Asher to turn fully and acknowledge the man whom "ran" things around here. "We agreed part of you coming back to the Marines was you getting your own crew with a potential Grandline assignment.. Well this is me keeping my end of the deal"

"You're not that bad" said Asher as he walked away from the base leader. He went and showered and while he was in the shower he reflected on his life and began to think of his sister as the shower rushed against his hair downwards his face. He wondered if she had actually found her crew and if she was even alive. They were making waves and Asher heard whispers of them being in the West Blue. Had he went and attacked them it wouldn't end too good for them as Asher was very confident in his skills. He turned the water off and got dressed.

Sometime after getting dressed Asher made his way to the shore and lied down on its gorgeous sand awaiting the convoy holding his new recruit.

The entire trip passed by in the blink of an eye. Or at least that was how Zeppelin felt as they announced on the ship that they were soon arriving in the 80th Branch in West Blue. She had been catching up on some reading and did not really talk much with the other new recruits and transfers who were all anxious about getting their first assignments in the new base. From what she could recall, the 80th branch specialized in weapons development as well as being the general supply store for ammunition and equipment for the various bases in this sea. She couldn't have found a better base of operations that suited her field of interest. To say she had high hopes would be an understatement.

The ship docked on the concrete harbor and the passengers on board were all lining up as they headed down. Zeppelin marked the page where she stopped and picked up her knapsack, following the rest of the recruits further inside the base. The entire place was solid concrete - truly a Marin fortress. And rightfully so, as you would not want to keep your weapons in a place that lacked ample security. In a way the atmosphere was less friendlier and less warmer than she was used to, but she would have to adapt.

As they walked on, they passed by the peculiar figure of a man lying down on the ground. There were a few whispers among the recruits but she could not catch a name. Some of them were definitely familiar with this man though. Was he someone famous?

Awaiting their arrival Asher hadn't really cared much for people working under him. His friendship with Zebra was more of a partnership than a subordinate relationship even if Zebra considered himself the second in command to Asher. He wondered how this woman was in terms of personality. Hopefully she wasn't submissive and took the reigns as the second to Asher's first as easily as most would based off his "slasher" reputation. The convoy was in distance which caused the nap of Asher's to end as he continued to look at the clouds pondering his next movement.

Upon the ships arrival Asher dug in his pocket grabbing a photo which showed a picture of a blonde woman who seemed happy about life. He looked at the picture with a blank expression as people got off the ship. The staring and whispers began almost immediately which was something Asher had come to accept, especially after recent events of his which made him seem more crazy than most. She was near the back of the soldiers and civilians coming off the boat and immediately Asher approached her and noticed how beautiful she was. Her cobalt blue eyes caused a smile blush on the face of Asher as he spoke "Nice to meet you, I'm Asher Kringle.... Are you Zeppelin?" said Asher with a bit of a broken voice.

Zeppelin
Asher Kringle. The name did not ring a bell. She was not from around these waters so that was to be expected. The man stood almost a foot taller than her. She could see why his appearance would look intimidating to some people. But the Asher that was in front of her at that moment did not really give off scary vibes. If anything he seemed a bit anxious. Come to think of it, why did he approach her in the first place?

"That is correct. Zeppelin, at your service." She responded with a quick salute. "It is nice to meet you too Mr. Kringle. To what to I owe the pleasure of this friendly greeting?"

One of Zeppelin's not-necessarily-bad habits was starting to kick in - that is getting a complete visual appraisal of the man standing in front of her. Every detail and peculiarity was being silently engraved in her mind and even his discreet mannerisms and quirks did not escape her notice. It was like getting a full body X-ray. There was plenty of information she could discern just from observing alone. For instance she could tell from his gait that he was a practiced swordsman. His well-built physique suggested that he favored powerful strikes with his style. She could imagine he was also fairly quick on his feet despite how he looked.

It made her all the more curious what a fighter wanted with a scientist like her.

Looking at Zeppelin, Asher could tell she was a beautiful woman but she was an odd case. He could tell she was studying him with her eyes. It was very obvious even if he wasn't particularly looking for it. A loud laughter escaping from Asher's mouth as Zeppelin began to clap for him. Asher would be damned if he would allow people to conform to the rules and policies usual marines fell victim to "No need to salute me" he said as he surveyed the area. He didn't want anyone around him or Zeppelin while they talk about what this was about.

"To be honest, I'm here because I was promised the first chance at recruiting you for my task force." said Asher whom was being serious at this moment. He really wanted Zeppelin because of her science skills along with her navigation skills. "You're a scientist no? I'm not from a normal division... I'm here and when I say here I mean for the world in a way that the average marine can't be.. and with your skills along with mine and my associates.. We could do some real work in the world" said Asher who was very passionate sometimes even when he wasn't trying to care much.

The man's loud laughter made Zeppelin raise an eyebrow. That was not the usual response to a salute and it made her pause to think if she did anything funny. Or maybe there was some West Blue custom she was not aware of that earned the man's chuckle. She was not fond of being ignorant about these things. Asher elaborated that he was not one to have people salute him causing her to ponder if perhaps he was not part of the typical Marine detail.

She listened intently as Asher finally explained why he came to her and to be honest, she could not help but feel skeptical about it. It was not even been five minutes yet since she got off from the boat and already she was being invited to a task force. It made her wonder if the Marines in this branch were shorthanded.

Her suspicions that Asher was not from a normal division were confirmed easily enough. It sounded like he was from somewhere a bit higher up. She recalled previously reading about special forces working directly for the government. From the way he spoke, he seemed very eager to have her aboard his team, like he was almost certain she would accept. Zeppelin however was far more careful about things like that. She was the type who did not to make commitments she could not keep. She wanted to make sure this man did not think she was someone she was not.

"Mr. Kringle, I have to say I'm quite surprised. I just arrived here today and with no particular achievements under my belt, I feel as though your expectations might be a bit misplaced. On my part, I cannot even affirm if I truly do possess the skills your task force is looking for as I have no idea what being a scientist for your team entails. Are you sure you have the right person?"

Zeppelin was not really declining his offer just yet. In truth, she had a fair amount of confidence her abilities when it came to research and development. Asher picked some big words in his proposition - working for the benefit of the world. But to enter into a sort of partnership while barely knowing anything about each other... The notion seemed careless if not outright foolhardy. There was only so much one could glean from reports and transfer papers. Without seeing the person in action with your own two eyes, you can never tell for sure what they were really like. This goes both ways. What kind of man was Asher Kringle? And was his passion the real deal?

Asher couldn't help but look into the eyes of Zeppelin. They were gorgeous and drew his attention at every moment. It was odd because he normally feasted upon women whom he had relations with as a sign of homage and honor but the way he pictured Zeppelin was as if she commanded respect and care from Asher. It was a weird feeling Asher carried.. It was almost as if he saw a fire in her that he wanted to spark. She listened to his story as to why he waited for her and judging by her facial expressions she thought this was all full of shit and Asher couldn't blame her. His story sounded sketchy, especially for your everyday marine.

She spoke and began to explain her reasoning for not believing into Asher's words and to be fair her words spoke truth. She explained how she hadn't really accomplished much for this level of attention as to which Asher chuckled. As quick as he could he drew his short blade which always had a resting place on his left hip, once drew he would hold it in the small space that was between him and Zeppelin. "This blade... It has killed... It has saved.. It has done it all" said Asher who was about to explain something very important to Zeppelin. "But because of where I was and who I worked with... None of that happened. If you ask anyone I'm a ghost and I just got into the marines... But just as I am a ghost you are new and this is a perfect chance for you to develop as a I do.. The yin to my yang." said Asher as he sheathed his blade.

Zeppelin was beginning to understand the man a little more. It was not so much that she possessed impressive qualifications. It was more that she had the bare minimum. Potential was what they were looking at here and she could agree that was a more reasonable measuring point. It was not a bad idea to have a few comrades working together to work their way up from the bottom. Fail or succeed, they would have someone to watch each other's backs and help each other grow. Still, Asher was getting slightly ahead of himself. They were not yet at a point in time where a serious partnership was in order. They had to start from the beginning.

"I have a feeling I can see where you're coming from. You must have gone through a lot and I sympathize. On my part, I cannot really say I had a hard life. I have high hopes for my future in the service of the Marines. But you make a good point. Whoever they may be, one cannot take up this challenge alone."

She held out her hand to shake.

"I'm sure you're a good man, but if it is all the same to you, I would like to start as friends."

The trust and partnership would come later. If they had any real chemistry, the whole thing would just fall in naturally. For now she wanted to reaffirm her stance. They were friends, associates - people who would come to assist the each other in a time of need. If that would build up to anything more, that was all up to their growth as individuals. At the moment, Zeppelin could say that she respected the man's seriousness at least.

"As your friend.... I'll see you later" said Asher whom was about to take the girl on a tour but wanted to work out instead. He didn't really feel like associating with people even if he thought they had potential such as him and Zeppelin. He saw her as a bright spot in the rather lackluster affairs of the every day marine. He would remember her even in his exploits going so far as to send her mail hoping to get him to join his exploits. He respected her decline and knew she didn't want to join too "weak" and unprepared for a journey around the craziest part of sea. He vanished into the sea preparing for a rare find.

Zeppelin wondered if she offended him. He seemed to back off pretty quickly. At least he acknowledged the friendship though. She was more than certain she would be seeing him around. For now, she had to report to base's commanding officer.
