Linedwell Rainrex wrote:Task Name: Disappear
Tier: 2
NPC or PC: NPC
Location: Karate Island
Crew, Team, or Personal: Personal
Description: Linedwell's detachment is leaving Karate Island tomorrow morning and heading to Base #45. The only problem with these orders are that Linedwell doesn't exactly want to be a Marine anymore. If he simply stays on Karate Island his detachment won't sail out and they'll like attempt to look for him on the Island, making it harder for him to eventually sail out on his own. The conclusion he has reached is that he must take out his former detachment before they have any idea that he has decided to go AWOL. Doing this will at least give him a while before the Navy as a whole is tipped off about his desertion.

Linedwell's task is that he will sneak out onto the Navy vessel that has been docked in front of Karate Island. Preferably, he'll be able to sneak on board and kill his former comrades before they know what's going on. With that accomplished, he'll set the ship out to sail, which would stop any concerned citizens from eventually checking the ship out if it happens to stay in the dock for too long without word from the Marines present on board. By the time the ship is checked up on by any other Navy officials, Linedwell will hopefully be long gone.

Enemy Details: Ten tier 1 Marines, One Tier 2 Lieutenant
Boss: Yes

Boss Name: Lieutenant Dan
Tier: 2
Description: Leads Linedwell's current detachment
Devil Fruit: N/A
Haki Aura: N/A
Equipment: Knuckle Dusters & Flintlock Pistol
Specs: 3 Hand to hand, 2 Marksman

As the time slowly ticked by, Linedwell couldn't do anything besides replay the plan he had in his head over and over. The only thing on his mind at this moment was making sure he hadn't skipped a step, or if he'd forgotten something crucial that he'd need to address. Midnight was soon approaching, and he could feel the butterflies in his stomach welling up. Once he started this, there'd be no turning back. He'd be an enemy of the Marines once word got out concerning what he'd done - the only way he'd be able to survive after this night was by embracing a life of piracy. He needed to make sure that this is something he wanted, after all, he could just make his way to the ship now, apologize for being later, be reprimanded a bit, and then simply follow instructions given to them by their higher-ups and take up his permanent position at Base #45.

Simply going along with this plan seemed to be the easy way out, but that's all it was - an easy way out. Nothing he planned on doing in the future - ranging from growing stronger to claiming his revenge against the Clarets would ever be easy. If he were to give into his fears now, he'd never be able to accomplish any of the goals he'd set out to accomplish in the first place. It was then that Linedwell knew that he couldn't afford to back down from this plan.

With a new strengthened resolve, Linedwell made sure he'd packed the rest of the equipment he'd need during this "mission". There was still a sense of nervousness that came with the task he was about to perform, but he'd use this nervousness in order to push him to perform at his peak. With everything in order, Linedwell soon exited the forge he'd been illegally occupying and began to make his way towards the harbor.

The day prior, he'd paid one of his fellow marines to throw a rope ladder over the far side of the ship before they went to sleep on the ship. He'd explained to his his fellow Marine that this would simply help him to get on board the ship unnoticed, as he wouldn't be able to make it to the ship before the following day. The Marine simply assumed that Linedwell meant this in a way that he wanted to board the ship and sneak on board before missing movement - which would ultimately mean that Linedwell failed to appear at the appointed time of their deployment. Instead, what Linedwell really needed this ladder in order to make his way onto the ship without alerting the two Marines that currently guarded the docks and the entrance onto the ship. Though boarding the ship through way of the ladder would cause Linedwell to do a bit of swimming, it would allow Linedwell's job to be a lot easier, as the Marines on board wouldn't be tipped off as a result of hearing fighting outside of the ship. He wanted to be able to kill as many of them as possible without them being aware of what was happening.

After finally reaching a point of the harbor that couldn't been seen by the patrolling Marines, Linedwell began to swim out towards the opposite side of the ship. The water was a lot colder than he'd expected it to be, given how hot the island felt during each day, but Linedwell removed this distraction from his mind. The more he thought about how cold the water was or anything outside of what he needed to do, he knew he'd end up thinking of ways excuses to put this off until another time.

Eventually, Linedwell had been able to reach the ladder that floated atop the surface of the water. Gripping his sword a bit more in his left hand, Linedwell extended his right arm upwards and hooped it around one of the rungs of the ladder before pulling himself up. Once high enough, Linedwell placed his feet on the bottom rung and proceeded to climb upwards as slowly as he could. He didn't want to cause too much noise as to alert anyone that could potentially be on the deck of the ship to his presence. With the bottom of the ladder resting atop the waters surface, one thing he didn't want to give him away was the sound of splashing.

Once reaching the top, Linedwell peered over the side, attempting to make sure that none of the Marines were currently on patrol on the deck of the ship. It would be horrible if he were to give up his position now after all the work he just put into a stealthy infiltration. Luckily for him, it didn't appear that anyone had been put on watch outside of the two Marines stationed on the dock.

After changing out into the clothes he'd brought with him in a waterproofed sack - well, mostly waterproof. Once changed, Linedwell made his way for the door. He placed his ear against the door, hoping that he'd hopefully be able to hear if any of his former comrades were still moving about in the lower levels of the ship. He would have listened for a bit longer to make sure, but he could feel his impatience getting the better of him. Outside of the two Marines currently stationed on the dock he knew there would be eight more in the lower levels as well as the Lieutenant that lead their detachment. Slowly, Linedwell pushed the door open and began to enter, creeping down the stairs down into the bowels of the ship.

Soon enough, Linedwell had made it to the crew quarters. There were multiple doors down here that lead to the rooms of the crew members, and the door at the far end of the hall belonged to the Lieutenant. He'd try his hand at killing the eight lower ranked Marines before attempting to kill his superior. One by one, Linedwell made his way into each room as stealthily as possible. Each time he'd walk into a room in which two crew members were asleep in their bunks, and as silently as possible Linedwell would dispatch of them. This trend went on without a hitch until only two were left on the the ship. Once Linedwell entered their room, he realized they weren't as asleep as he assumed they'd been. Unlike the rest, these two were up playing a round of cards - and one of these men happened to be the one that threw the ladder over the side that Linedwell made use of. Both of the men looked in Linedwell's direction, and it was obvious they were a bit puzzled as to why Linedwell decided to crash their game. Before either of them could speak, however, Linedwell decided he'd assure them everything was okay.

"Hey, I'm sorry guys, I just couldn't sleep...I figured you guys wouldn't mind if I played a round or two with you guys?"

The two Marines shot a glance at one another before quickly motioning for Linedwell to come.

"Sure, just close the door."

As one of the Marines began to deal the cards, the other began to reach into his pocket a place a few Beli notes on the table.

"Around here we play for keeps, how much are you willing to b-"

Before Linedwell's former friend could complete his sentence, Linedwell had already drawn his blade and decapitated the man before stabbing forward and stabbing the other male through the eye, piercing his brain. Both men died instantly, saving Linedwell the trouble of needing to keep them quiet.

The only opponent that Linedwell had now was the Lieutenant. He could only hope that Lieutenant Dan would be as easy to dispatch as the others had been - yet, once the door to Dan's room had been opened, Linedwell was greeted with the site of the Lieutenant pointing a gun in his direction. It seemed things wouldn't be as easy as Linedwell hoped they'd be.

"So you've finally made your move..."

As the Lieutenant spoke, he began to circle about the room, his pistol still pointed in Linedwell's direction.

"...Ever since you were made a part of this detachment, I've always known there was something sinister about you.  At first I thought you were just the type that didn't like socializing, and I couldn't fault you for that. But over time, the longer we spent around you, the more I realized that there was something more to you - you hid some sort of agenda that had nothing to do with this organization."

"Well, if you know so much about me, then you already know why I'm here...why don't we skip all the small ta-"

Before Linedwell could finish his sentence, the Liutenant was already cutting a path towards Linedwell, his gun still pointed towards his face before firing. Linedwell ducked down as quickly as he could, only to be met by a swift kick to his abdomen, sending him flying backwards. The force of the kick was an immense one, one that probably would have knocked him out instantly if he hadn't endured Mr. Miyagi's training only days prior. Comparatively, this kick wasn't much - yet, that didn't mean that this kick hadn't been enough to cause all the air in him to be knocked out.

Linedwell flew back about seven meters, but while he flew backwards he managed to close his eyes for a brief moment and upon opening them his Satori technique had now been employed. Once he'd come to a stop, Linedwell began to make a dash towards Dan, who still continued to fire in Linedwell's direction. Making use of his speed, Linedwell had been able to dodge each and every bullet. Once he reached a distance of about two meters away from Dan,  Linedwell made use of his Towaki technique, slicing vertically while also creating a thin blade of compressed air that sliced through the air towards Dan's position. The slash began to cut through the wooden floor and through the cieling, giving Dan enough notice of the danger of the technique to move out of the way, yet, when he did, Linedwell made sure to follow up this attack with another one.

Linedwell's blade had been fully prepared to lob off the head of his opponent, but before he could act there was yet another bullet aimed for his face. There wasn't enough time for Linedwell to dodge this bullet, thus, the only alternative would be to attack it head on. Employing his blade once more, Linedwell managed to parry the bullet with O-Ren Ishii. There was a brief struggle between Linedwell and the bullet as he attempted to overpower it. The struggle lasted for only a few seconds, yet, it felt as if it went on for eons. With one final push, Linedwell was able to overpower the bullet and send it flying back in the direction it'd come from - right between the eyes of Lieutenant Dan.

Linedwell collapsed to the floor after this struggle - the strain of this fight having pushed him to the edge. Though he'd been in many battles before, he'd never been in one that had nearly costed his life many times over. Multiple times in that exchange, he found himself about to die - yet, he managed to persevere. With his once fellow Marines now dead, Linedwell was free to pursue any course of action he wished...Linedwell's new life of piracy started now. After his brief rest, Linedwell made his way back up to the deck and hoisted the anchor. With everything situated to sail, Linedwell allowed to ship to start sailing out from the harbor. With this accomplished, he also made short work of the two dumbfounded Marines that patrolled the docks, hiding their bodies in the water. After getting a good night's rest, Linedwell knew he'd need to hurry and make his way off this island.
