1 Johnathon Keyes on Tue Jun 20, 2017 10:49 am

Name: Johnathon Keyes
Alias/Epithet: The Corpse Doctor
Race: Cyborg
Tier: 1
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Mode: Hard

Description of Modes:

Easy Mode: Easy Mode is for people who have no major interest in their characters dying. You have access to private topics, maims turn into severe bruising that inhibit the use of the damaged body part for the rest of the thread, what would normally cause deaths turn into your character simply being knocked out. However, everything isn't good for you, this also means that your character will never be able to pass Tier 3.

  • Exceptions to these Rules: Should you attack someone on Hard Mode with killing, crippling, injuring, or maiming intent OOC or IC, you lose your Easy Mode protection and may have the same done to you. May it be killed, maimed, injured, etc as long it is the same intention.

  • You cannot make private travel threads, but they can still be No Kill due to your Easy Mode Protection.

  • Also, there are also events which your character will be at risk if you choose to enter them.

  • Lastly your character can be vulnerable to death if you will it.

Hard Mode: This is for people willing to take more of a risk for more of a reward. In this mode you can reach up to T6, and there are other things available to you, like world positions. However, your character is always death enabled. A hard mode person is not allowed to make a "No Kill" thread or a Private thread. Their whole existence is open. Hard Mode is to promote a more realistic One Piece Roleplay-verse and while people are eligible to die while on Hard Mode, our aim here is not to make this a place where people meaninglessly kill. Hard Mode is introduced to promote interactive RP where people value there allies and teammates. Hard Mode is for an experience closer to Canon.

  • Exceptions to these Rules: If you are situated on your island or your ship while out in the sea(not docked on an island), you are permitted to make a private thread between you and crew members. HOWEVER, you cannot make a private travel thread on your ship, you are still at risk of invasion in those threads.

  • Protection for Private Topics on your Ship can last for a duration of 7 IC Post, afterwards the topic is Open.

Changing Modes: Changing modes is also possible if you start out a character, and realize the mode you chose does not really suit you. Unfortunately, to prevent people making the first choice without thought, or using easy mode to their advantage getting as high as they can with Easy Mode, and jumping to Hard Mode, there are penalties to both sides changing modes.

  • Easy Mode Penalties: If you're on Easy Mode, and you change to hard mode, you are bumped down an entire tier, and will have to build your way back up. Anything spent on something you cannot have anymore because of tier problems, (You were T3 with a T3 only sword, and you've been knocked down to T2), will be refunded if you wish.
  • Hard Mode Penalties: If you choose to jump to Easy Mode, you get everything taken from you that is Hard Mode only.

You may only change your Mode once and it does not effect preexisting topics you are in.

Occupation: Doctor
Affiliation: Marine
World Position: N/A

General Appearance:
Keyes' appearance can be described as creepy to some, frightening to others, and to a select few, tragic. A tall, lean man, Keyes has often been described as looking a bit like a ghoul. The man is deathly pale, with numerous scars and stitches across his body. The most prominent is a large patch of discoloured skin stitched around his torso. Despite his thin stature, he does seem to have a bit of muscle on him. His face is thin, with sharp features and yet has a bit of a subdued handsomeness to it, hinting at how he looked before the incident. Dark bags are under his bright blue eyes, and even his lips are a dark shade. His pale blonde hair is a tangled mess, falling in front of his face and partially covering his left eye.

His attire gives off some indication of his profession, but it still doesn't help his image. He wears a white doctor's coat, often left open to reveal the stitches on his torso, and is a little bit frayed around the edges. He wears a pair of black leather pants with dark blue bands around the thighs, and puffy, dark blue patches on the knees. A pair of knee high black leather boots, and a pair of white gloves complete the ensemble. On some occasions, he can be seen wearing an orange scarf around his neck.

When out in public, he wears a large, baggy white trench coat, covering himself, and a tall white hat with a flower tucked into the band.

General Appearance:

In Public:
Height: 6'2''
Weight: 234 lbs
Crew Tattoo Placement: N/A

At a first glance, Keyes comes of as a rather quiet and subdued individual, often keeping quiet until spoken to and sometimes even falling asleep. The reason for this though is due to the fact that most of the time, Keyes is doped up on morphine to deal with his pain. He also comes off as a bit loopy at times, once again due to the drugs in his system. Doesn't exactly sound like a doctor you want working on you, huh?

However, when one gets to know him, Keyes is unfailingly polite, and despite appearances is a damn good doctor. He always puts his patient's comfort first, and works with a professional, yet comforting air about him. He's quite intelligent, and often spends his time reading and learning up on the world around him. He's quite devoted to his medical career and will settle for nothing less than the complete recovery of his patients. He's even willing to put himself at risk to ensure their good health.

Deep down though, he's a main in pain. His morphine addiction stems from the constant pain that his cybernetics gives him. While he holds no grudge against cyborgs in general, he despises a job half down, whenever it's cybernetics or medicine. He also has a fondness for children, and seeing harm come to them is a surefire way to set him off. When enraged, Keyes almost goes completely psychotic, taking some time to calm down, even after the incident is over.
Morphine - Sweet delicious morphine keeps the pain away. Sure, he wishes he wasn't so dependent on it, but its better than being in constant agony.
Children - Keyes has a soft spot for children, often treating them with extra special care when treating them. He would like some of his own someday, but after the incident he seriously doubt its going to happen.
Literature - Reading is a major past time for the good doctor, and is always looking out for a good book to read.
Lazy Workers - A doctor who doesn't properly treat their patient, a builder who half finishes a project? People who just half ass their work are disgraces in Keyes' eyes, mainly because he's the victim of such half-assery.
Sadism - As a man constantly in pain, he despises those who relish in the pain of others. Such people deserve to be put in the ground, immediately.
Alcohol - He wasn't much of a drinker to begin with, but now mixing alcohol with morphine does not result in a happy doctor, and one you want anywhere near you.

Even at a young age, Jonhathon Keyes always wanted to help others. Growing up with a mother who was a doctor, it seemed only natural that a career in medicine awaited him. He excelled in his studies, and before long had managed to land himself a career as a doctor, for his home town on Tres Iron Lotus. Once he got his medical license, Johnathon signed up for the marines, enlisting as a medical officer for the marines. He proved to be quite popular amongst his fellows. His professionalism, plus his friendly demeanor (and his good looks helped), endeared him to the fighting men and women of the royal navy.

However, this promising career all came crashing down when a pirate crew attacked the naval base Johnathon was stationed at. During the chaos of the attack, Johnathon was struck dead on by a cannonball, and buried under collapsed rubble. When the battle was finally over, and Johnathon was recovered, his body had been severely damaged, just clinging onto life. None of the remaining doctors were able to treat him. The damage was too severe. It looked like there was no saving the good doctor.

However, while the doctors could do nothing, there was someone who could. A scientist from the World Government had been visiting the base at the time, and was part of a project in developing cyborg soldiers for the government. He suggested installing cybernetics into Johnathon, converting him into a cyborg and saving his life. Unwilling to lose the good doctor, the marines remained.

Though much of the scientist's equipment had been damaged, her got right into work, replacing damaged and destroyed organs with mechanical ones, replacing shattered bones with iron. After hours of hurried work, it was finally a success. He had managed to bring the good doctor back.

Who promptly woke up screaming. In the rush to save Johnathon's life, there had been some flaws in installing the cybernetics. His body felt every piece of machinery inside of him, and the pain it caused was excruciating. Unfortunately, the scientist didn't have the resources to correct the issue, and instead put the doctor on morphine to kill the pain.

From there, Johnathon's life began to spiral downhill. The toll the procedure took on both his body and mind became apparent. His body became pale and gaunt, and the constant dosage of morphine began to effect his mind, though thankfully not his skill. The men and women who once took pleasure in being around him, now just felt uncomfortable, having to be treated by what was essentially a shell of a once great doctor. Johnathon wasn't oblivious to this new sentiment towards him, and though he tried to continue his work and hopefully win them back, it wasn't long before it became apparent he would never belong amongst them again.

It was with a heavy heart that Johnathon requested a transfer from the base, one that his commanding officer sadly agreed to.
