Character Name: Jiang Qi
Approved Character Sheet:
Character Sheet:
Link: http://op-piratenation.forumotion.com/t7354-jiang-qi

Name: Jiang Qi
Alias/Epithet: "Inner Ginger Power"
Race: Monkey Mink

  • Electro
  • Prehensile toes and tail
  • Stable while oriented right-side up or upside down

Gender: Male
Age: 23
Mode: Hard

General Appearance:

Qi's life has forced his body to mature into a finely tuned machine. Being a thief has put him in positions that require strength, speed, and creativity, if only to make his job more interesting. Being able to quickly pocket someone's beli and replace their wallet is the basic principle of being a thief, as well as defending himself if someone manages to catch him. Because of this, he's tuned his body to be both lean and strong. He can throw out a force rivaling or exceeding muscle-brained individuals, but also outmaneuver a great deal of the world. On top of that, his bloodline grants him a great deal of flexibility, allowing him to pickpocket up to four people at the same time, given the right circumstances.

From top to bottom, Qi is covered with a dense coat of short, copper hair. Depending on how he meets the light, the hair could appear anywhere from a dark brown to a dirty red and is part of the reasoning behind his name. His head is covered with a longer hair that deepens into a brighter red and shares some of its length with the hair that makes its way down around his chin, giving him the appearance of having facial hair despite being a monkey mink. The only spots on his body that are hairless are the typical spots on a monkey, being his face, hands, and feet; although Qi is littered with scars he has obtained over the years from failed heists.

One such tattoo is a long, wide scar that dons his back. The gash, coming from a battle with a sea king, took a long while to heal and ended up never growing hair to replace what he lost. To fill the void, he had a tattoo of an 'oni' placed on the scar tissue, appearing as if it's crawling out from inside him. It signifies the monsters that he's been able to put behind him, but also serves as a warning to any enemies approaching from the rear. Qi's eyes are a dark yellow that cover all but the jet black pupils and the oni's eyes on his back are drawn to appear similar.

Qi's fur covers most of his body, but in spite of that, he can't find a reason to not wear pants. Even so, the ones he does wear are made of a lightweight fabric and hang somewhat loosely, providing coverage, but still allows him to move around freely and comfortably. However, with the exception of pants, Qi chooses to not wear clothes and rely on the fur like the mink he is. His feet are also bare, but mostly because of the fact that he can use his feet like hands so they're better naked. With the use of his feet and prehensile tail, Qi can act almost as if he's got five arms instead of the usual two.

Height: 5'9"
Weight: 155 lbs.
Crew Tattoo Placement: N/A

Personality:
Qi's line of work wasn't his designated goal. Being a thief was the end result of his free spirited personality taking root and running away with his life. His desire to survive and have fun has culminated into a series of personality quirks that make him interesting, such as:

Focused -- The average person is capable of stealing things, but the ability to steal doesn't make one an adept thief. In order to do it properly an individual must exercise both focus and mental flexibility. Being able to keep an eye on what each hand is doing, where your target's eyes are pointing, and their subtle movements takes a great deal of focus. Everything is in some manner a job, and being able to focus on his job is what has lead Qi to building a successful life for himself.

Loyalty -- The people that Qi has surrounded himself with are not individuals that would be considered part of society's morally superior, or even remotely morally just. Half of these individuals are the types to sell their friends up the river in no time flat, so the ones that do make it big in underworld business are usually the types that are trustworthy. Being loyal, in the business that Qi has made himself prevalent in, is almost as good of a currency as beli, so it's a part of who he is.

Broadminded -- Qi's personal emotions and ideals don't dictate his choices as far as fairness is concerned. He's very capable of empathizing with everyone, looking at any given situation as if he were in the position of both the victim and the culprit. He's capable of emotionally attaching and detaching himself at the same time, choosing to think through a situation based on his own logic in order to benefit the most people less, or less people more. All actions are taken with a focus on the bigger picture and end goal.

Sly -- Subtle movements and risky plays are what makes up the brunt of Qi's business. Getting caught at any given moment can lead to death, and the riskier and more likely that death is, the bigger the payout. Praying on the inability to keep ones motions under control is part of what can lead to success in his line of business, but so can the ability to control his own. Hiding his own personal emotions makes him an asset to have during business deals.

Emotional -- While Qi is very capable when it comes to his business, he's not one to be a totally blank slate. When it doesn't have anything to do with money, he undoes his belt and lets his emotions run wild. He's capable of being as cold as ice, but can also be the life of the party. He takes pride in his ability to have fun, but he's also very capable of losing his temper.

Mischievous -- He likes to see the expressions on people when they're spooked or confused. It may be due to his nature as a monkey mink or just his need to relieve some of the tension that his job can cause, but the thrill in causing trouble for others is in part what lead him to becoming a thief. Stealing wallets and watching people panic was fun, but the extra beli from it was also extremely enticing.

Likes:

  • Cola! Replaces coffee, replaces, water, and the only thing that'll do otherwise is alochol.
  • Being rewarded for his actions, specificially rewarded with a large sum of beli.
  • The freedom given to him by swinging from high places.
  • Bananas.

Dislikes:

  • His need for a banana.
  • Strong smells, primarily perfumes and colognes. The scent is overwhelming for his nose and makes him sneeze.
  • Wearing shoes.

History:
Zou is the birthplace of all minks. An island nation veiled in mystery and fear, it is said to be inhabited by a race of wild animals. This is an incorrect sentiment, but not one that is unfounded. Each and every mink is a trained warrior, making Zou fully militarized, getting stronger with each generation as they're able to maintain that strength in old age. But physical training isn't the only part of what makes Zou what it is. Each mink is a cog in a bigger machine, taught to be part of something greater and hold their values above other worldly desires, even throwing away their lives in the face of loyalty. However, there are some minks that differ from the norm and don't take to these ideals as intrinsically as the rest of their kind.

One such mink goes by the name of Jiang Qi. Growing up on Zou had taught him a lot of things, and just like everyone else he had a sense of nationalism to his country and a very capable nature as a warrior, but the idea of dying for his country or his country's friends wasn't one that appealed to him. He wanted to survive, so that he could grow into a powerful force whether it by by sheer physical strength or monetary might. This desire to become something that wasn't just important to his birthplace lead him to many discoveries of the world outside his own. Zou was cut off from the rest of the world due to its location, but the news coo and the few visitors that managed to make it atop the great elephant revealed to him just how expansive the world below was. The pirates and marines that made it to Zou showed the contrast of right and wrong in the world, which was profoundly interesting to the young mink on a philosophical level. The few that showed up with devil fruits proved that the level of power that was given to the minks was only just the beginning, and could open up even greater doors with the knowledge and tools of the lower world. But more than anything, the lesser minks and the rich history that existed because of them were the most interesting and impressive bits of information that made it to his ears.

Qi knew that living on Zou kept him relatively excluded from the rest of the world and the information that it had. He wanted to not only expand the knowledge he had, but become a part of history by exploring the world below. The lower world had the ability to increase his physical ability, increase his monetary gain, and give him the fame that he sought. Knowing this, his decision was a simple one. He had learned everything he could from the limited scope that Zou had, and at the age of twenty-three, made the decision to descend into the ocean below. He had nothing to his name but enough food and money to get him somewhere and a rowboat if all else failed. His started destination? Paradise.

Primary Skill Set:
Spoiler:
Fighting Style: Lifestyle
Skill Set Name: Aspect of the Monkey
Skill Set Information:
Aspect of the Monkey is a skillset created from the weaving of personality traits and physical ability. It's not meant to be centered on either combat or utility, but combines both to be useful in a variety of situations, allowing Qi's to seamlessly blend the use of his thieving skills and mink traits to come out on top of any given situation. The usefulness of the skillset grows with Qi himself as he finds more ways to use his personal abilities. Users of Electro can channel electricity through parts of their bodies in order to shock anything they touch. This power can also be channeled through weapons. This technique grants extra damage to attacks, giving the opponents electric burns and paralysis.
Passives:
  • -
  • -
  • -

Skillset Strengths:
  • Blends combat techniques with occupational skills in order to gain an advantage in a situation, whether that advantage is an edge in combat or otherwise.
  • The flexibility in the body of a monkey mink allows skills to be used from normally functionally flawed situations; such as upside down, hanging from branches/ropes, while balancing, or even simply awkward angles.

Skillset Weaknesses:
  • Most of the skills are actions stemming from the use of one's body, so there are few, if any, ranged attacks.
  • As a skillset not based on technical skill, there aren't any defensive techniques, forcing the user to rely purely on a combination of resourcefulness, luck, and the monkey mink's flexibility.

Tier 1 Skills:

Skill Name: Four Limb Pickpocket
Type: Speed
Range: Within arm's (and leg's) reach
Speed: Self
Description:
As a thief, pickpocketing is a natural skill. However, traditionally the person pickpocketing only has the skill to create one victim at a time and two if they can use both their hands. Four Limb Pickpocket is a skill only usable by individuals with more than two prehensile limbs, namely monkey minks. Balancing on one foot, Qi can reach into the pocket of anyone within reach of both of his arms, a leg, and his tail, allowing him to pickpocket up to four people at the same time. It's a technique that takes an insane amount of focus, dexterity, and the ability to make the right call in order to take the beli of four people without any of them noticing.
