Pirates

Naga D. Linnea

Task Name: Wartime Mischief
Tier: T2
NPC or PC: PC
Location: Illusia Island
Crew, Team, or Personal: Crew
Description: As always, Revolutionaries and Marines are fighting at the edge of their controlled territory. The way they do it inside an inhabited city and turn it into a warzone makes most people incapable of taking any moral side in the fight, leaving opportunistic pirates more than capable of harassing both sides and looting their equipment. You can get more Beli if you go the extra mile and find out the headquarters of both sides, and plunder that too
Enemy Details: 10 T0 Marine Grunts; 10 T0 Revolutionary grunts; 2 T1 Revolutionary leaders; 1 T2 Marine captain
Boss: No

WORDS: 325 | TAG: @Spook | NOTES:  Haki = 70/70

So, the revolutionaries and marines were fighting again? Linnea was pretty determined to head out there again, knowing the many battlefronts on this island kept either side from investing too heavily in a single fight. No matter what they actually did when they got there, she seriously doubted they would come back empty handed. They could steal weapons and expensive equipment off both sides - though Linnea seriously preferred the Marines with their better funded gear - she wasn't really above stealing from revolutionaries too, since the latter were also not afraid of holding onto treasure they found, just like Pirates. Sure, they were usually nicer to the commonfolk than the Marines were, but that didn't make them saints: Far from it, they were killers, just like Pirates and the Marines. She heard this while walking around town, in the outskirts of the Revolutionary controlled area. A little further towards Marine territory laid the contested area, where she might be able to find the battle...

Linnea came back to her ship and announced, with an adventurous, almost mischievous gleam in her eyes, "The Marines and the Revs are up to no good again!! I'm gonna check it out, anybody up for an adventure?"

She then looked around the deck... The Mercenary she hired to man her cannons displayed some interest in coming along, but those guys always worked together and Linnea would much rather make a small expedition of no more than three people. Any more and they'd get drawn into the battle without fail, without any possibility of seeing what was happening there. Plus, she'd much rather keep the rather weak mercenaries manning the ship's cannons, where the Kairoseki plating would protect them and allow them to dish out punishment in the form of oversized lead balls... She'd rest one hand on her hip, hoping for one of the more combat savvy members of her crew...

Peacekeeping... For a price.

Spook

Spook having being hanging around at the ship, he was found at the poopdeck. His boots sticking out of the ship, somewhat in a laid back position he had his feet rested on top of the side. 'I'm down,'

Spook said, getting his feet off the side and standing up right. He heard his captains call, saying  that there was an emergency with, or rather some troublemakers near. He was down to shed some blood among the marines or revolutionaries had they been near, he wouldn't want any troops near the ship of course. The friendly other pirates- or rather non registered non government traders that were branded as pirates didn't really have the capabilities to protect themselves. Spook quickly went into the quarters and grabbed his rugzak and his spear. He returned not two minutes later with his weapon,

'I'm all set, ready to go'

He explained, meeting Naga at the maindeck once more. She looked perticularly odd today, as if she were in some kind of hurry. He got it though, they were departing for the grand line very soon. Perhaps she was stressing out? Nothing that a good killing of the tyranny of the seas couldn't solve.

'Let's go'

He asked, pacing towards the gangplank as he took off from the ship. He pranced around, somewhat.

'How many units did you notice?'

He asked, while proudly prancing towards the general direction he thought would be in some kind of danger. It was more or less his natural instinct to walk towards the black smoke that had been coming from a few miles further away.

'So what have you been up to?'

Spook asked, stepping through the forest that led closer to the black smoke. It was a very green, naturey forest. It rained often around here, giving the nature some life.

Spook was the first to answer her call, and he'd be all she really needed. He was a skilled fighter judging by the strength of his aura and his main occupation, even if Linnea had never really seen him in action. This would give her a good chance to rectify that slight fault, and the same could be said for him not yet having seen what she could do... He headed inside the ship to collect his gear, and before long he had headed back up, armed and ready, "Alright, let's go!", she said, slightly more perky than usual. She didn't know what she was going to encounter (aside from the obvious Marines and Revolutionaries), and an adventure like this was still exciting. She had an empty bag strapped to her back, likely meant to hold whatever treasure she found.

"I haven't actually seen them yet...", she confessed, blushing and almost embarassed, "I expect about no more than 40 men on both sides, but that number might have dwindled by the time we arrive."

She activated her Haki and walked beside spook, scouting ahead for any signs of life other than tiny animals. The smoke up ahead suggested where the battlefield might be, so they only had to follow it. She enjoyed the quiet moment to chat with Spook who was one of the latest members in her crew, smiling as she explained her daily life at Illusia island, "Exploring as usual. I've drawn most of the interesting landscapes on this island however... What about you?"

The weather was lovely today and as they walked through the woods the only sounds they could hear was the wind rustling the leaves and birds fluttering above, yet as the smoke got closer, it was soon replaced by sounds of battle. Soon, enough, she detected people in her Kenbunshoku range and raised her bow, "Someone's coming... One... No, two...... Five people running our way."

Of course she wasn't trigger happy enough to shoot first ask questions later, not when these auras revealed fear more than murderous anger. She lowered her weapon when saw civilians fleeing - letting them pass - and pressed on. As she got close enough and they started seeing corpses, her expression changed drastically, "Voices are vanishing; one after the other. These guys are killing more citizens than each other..!", she said, clenching her fist. Why was there any need for so much death over such a measly battle?! These guys... These fucking guys... Even the Revolutionaries who prided themselves in their work to protecting the people of these Oceans from the corruption and tyranny of the world government callously forgot those very same principles in favor of their hatred for the law.

Soon they could see live Marines and Revolutionaries, angrily fighting each other, and Linnea turned her cold glare their way, quickly nocking and releasing three arrows, using her Haki to tell where two marines and one revolutionary would be and intercepting them with arrows to the chest, "There's at least fifteen fighter within the next 50 meters ahead, one of them far stronger than the others.", she turned to spook with the calm, steady gaze he might expect of a trained sharpshooter. Her cold blooded warrior mindset and now completely taken hold and she was ready for battle.

Between the bodies of the slain combatants and other stuff dropped, they had plenty of loot avaliable...

'Adversity can fall through hope, and resilience.'

Spook said, in reply to the amount of numbers that might be present. Perhaps that tonight would be the night that his true character would show, to his captain no less. He started to skip, you know, among the stones at the sides of the road. While holding his spear, he maintained safety. His attention turned to his left, on the hill far away it was a dark manor. A haunted mansion, called by the citizens of the village. The source of all of the evil, it caused nearby people to become insane. To abandon all hope,

Just as he was in a train of thought, interrupted he was. By his captain, warning him. He held his spear a slight bit more tightly, perhaps it was a hint of him becoming nervous? Or... excited. One to five people, she said. Spook being alert, he paid attention to the surroundings, but more importantly, the defense of his captain. She was a marksman, perhaps her defense in close quarter combat wasn't that excellent. But hey, that's where Spook came in.

'More bones return to rest; devils remanded to their abyss'

Spook spoke, as a few grunts were executed. The thrill of the hunt inspired Spook. He felt that his captain understood adversity, and was fully capable of handling combat herself. Spook nodded, hearing more information. He was still skipping stones, oddly enough.

'More have arrive, foolishly seeking fortune and glory.'

The spear was an extension of his arm. Deciding to pick off a few other rogue soldiers that were further away from their pack. Appearing from the bushes, the tip of the spear would find itself to be pierced through the abdomen of a rogue soldier, blood dripping down it. His peers, shocked by the sigh of their dying friend.

'It. Is. A. Travesty.'

Spook spoke, twisted and maniacal. As if he were nightmare-made material. The fiends must be driven back, and what better place to be in than the seat of our noble lion. Quickly, and agile, the spear was pulled back. Simultaneously, a higher ranking soldier tried to strike Spook. Teetering on the brink, Spook faced the abyss and managed to evade and step away from the hit. Dead waits for the slightest lapse in concentration.

Spook used his spear to swipe at the higher ranking officer, not managing to hit him but force him to evade backwards. Which is what his goal was, he then divided his attention among two other soldiers that tried jumping him.

'Mastery over life and death was chief among my early pursuits. I began in humility, but my ambition was limitless. Who could have divined the prophetic import of something as unremarkable as a twitch in the leg of a dead rat.'

Blood making the dirt muddy, as Spooks spear had found it way to murder three more soldiers by expertly thrusting at right timing, while short one versus one duels followed. Alerted by the other high ranking soldier, he remained cautious.

Spook revealed a new side of himself as they approached battle, not unlike how she did. She nodded in agreement to his words, thus proving that the strongest principles never changed no matter how far away you might be.

"...and resolve.", she completed with a 'last-but-not-least tone', thinking back to how this very same notion was drilled into her from a young age. The same way locked on with her truest aim, both metaphorical and literally: Haki was willpower given form after all.

The more she heard him speak, the more he reminded her of the warriors of legend, the kind she'd read about in books. Strong, inspiring, insightful. After all, there lies the difference between a thug with a spear and a true spearman. As three more soldiers popped into her radar, she made quick signs towards their direction and number, enough for her partner to know all the information he might want. Most impressive of all, was his aura when he took the fight to the three enemies. Together, they were cutting right through the battlefront, wiping out enemies on either side.

"More will come, until we nip this in the bud. Reap the strong on each side, and the weak shall scatter.", she answered, steely and single mindedly focused on her task with those keen eyes and color of Observation

His presence alone sent a shiver down her spine: like Liara, Spook was also a guy she didn't want to piss off. More than anything, Linnea was glad to have crewmates like that; allowed her to worry less after all... She had eyes on him at all times despite only pointing her sharp steel blue gaze at the enemies ahead of her. If enemies further away presented themselves, she'd line up a quick shot and snipe them off from a distance. Once the wilderness came to an end, she had clear sight of one of her targets; the same strategy she used for situations like these. Along the way, she looted gold pouches off slain foes other valuables she could pack up, including three of her arrows that were still usable.

The Marines... The Revolutionary army... Two colossal snakes meeting in combat, each seeking to kill the other with no concern for their envoiroment, for the lives sacrificed to their rampage. Worse of all, both of sides were killing those they were sworn to protect... If they callously sacrifice their purpose, then they are even worse than those they call villains. Coming to a halt, she took cover and nodded towards the stronger Aura, likely a marine leader judging by all the Marines around; "Up there rests the head of one snake: The strongest Marine. All we have to do...", she nocked a shinier steel tipped arrow at full power, coating it with Jet Black Haki, locked on, and finally released her one of her stronger techniques; only then finishing her sentence as she watched the arrow fly, "...Is sever it."

The Killing blow sprun through the air at incredible speed, and the Haki coating made it so there was absolutely no obstacle able to obstruct its path. Her powerful arrow drilled through walls, floors and ceilings, piercing the heart of the Marine Captain commanding his troops from up there. A swift, unexpected attack he could never have seen coming. His men had secured the surrounding buildings against snipers into the city, but what manner of sharpshooter could possible reach him from below? The building itself shook with the drilling impact, as if the object hadn't been a simple arrow but a much heavier projectile...

Yet the choice of technique came from its speed. Faster than a bullet, she chose her Drill Shot to take as much advantage from her 'surprise attack' as possible. The effects of the flashy kill were immediate, with the Marines losing their chain of command and with it a great deal of their morale. All of those ahead were sitting ducks...

As fiends fell one by one, there seemed to be a mass plowing of cannon- fodder. His spear found itself to be piercing more and more foes. Spook had become more tired over time, he was using skills that started to tax on his stamina. Slowly, there were a small amount of people remaining. About 5 units, Spooks lack of stamina made him tired out. But, this task wasn't too difficult, he figured. As the two combat opponents danced with each other, the winner had to fight some more.

Which was Spook, obviously. He had been slightly injured, in the quick flicks and onetaps. The cloth he wore, slightly torn. Small scathings here and there. Nothing that would leave a scar. He held his spear in a lancer position, recovering his breath some more before proceeding. The forest was dark, and he didn't have a torch. There were some fires around the area, creating a thin veil of smoke.

'The firesmoke is increasing; we should wrap up and leave.'

He suggested. Just as he spoke, a decent seeming warrior tried to strike Spook at his blindside, Spook being unaware would be left to the keen eyesight of his captain-- whether she could defend him or not would decide if he would leave this battle with a long scar. Spook, after the last enemy couldn't see anything else. The smoke was getting thicker and thicker. He was guided by coughs, of the enemy. The snow white hair of his captain was visible, so he was sure not to strike her.

One by one all of the marines fell, to arrows and spear strikes alike. Spook was pretty strong, easily the strongest among all of her crew... Linnea was impressed... She expected him to be good, but not this good. Guess the world really is full of surprises. Linnea was conserving her stamina, unaware of how many more foes could come help these guys; but then it proved mostly unnecessary. As the two of them wiped out all the remaining Marines, others soon started coming upon them, the other side of this battle. Linnea shot arrows as they popped into the grid, silencing all of the battle frenzied voices before they could kill others in their rampage, at least five revolutionary soldiers were reaped by her arrows... Spook mostly took care of the Marines as they appeared aimlessly, but Linnea's radar detected a stronger aura who evaded her crewmates notice and quickly poised himself for a sneak attack. As if she'd let him! Reacting on pure instinct, Lin pivoted on one foot and swiftly turned around, shifting her bow the opposite direction while drawing an arrow much faster than she normally did, locking one eye straight on that foe's head. Before his attack could connect he'd find himself intercepted by an accurate arrow to the eye that pushed him away. Remembering how she startled Elise the last time she pulled one such stunt, she gave him a faint smile and a thumbs up, looking around as he commented on the smoke:

"Indeed...", Linnea agreed, covering her mouth as the smoke started spreading out, refreshing her Haki to search for any more potential enemies. She found none, and promptly shared her finding, "Seems that was the last of them."

She quickly walked around between her kills, scavenging some of her own arrows, weapons, and pouches of Beli. All and all, she gathered a decently hefty look. Resting one hand on her hip and stowing away her bow behind her back, she eyed Spook curiouslyto see what he'd collected.

Spook, fortunately was saved by the keen eye of his captain. Sighing out of relief he saw one marine soldier, that was crawling away. Injured, he was. Spook let him go, he could of course finish him of. But that wasn't Spooks goal he currently tried to raise his bounty, so should he enter the paradise he won't be a complete no-name, even though he would sort of be a semi no name there.

'Indeed'

He replied to his captain, not wanting to show her that one other marine was crawling he tried blocking the field of vision as he walked towards her. He strapped his spear on his back and bent over, feeling the dust on the ground. It felt kind of nice, he couldn't really explain it. Spook did the same, he was starting to pick up the beli from the fallen soldiers.

There was quite a bit. He took most of what was left, and used a cloth to clean the blood off the tip of his spear. He tossed the same cloth to his captain, perhaps she could use it to clean her arrows.

'Let's head back then, shall we?'

He suggested, looking around the near empty forest. With some treasuries in his pocket, he would start prancing through the romantic forest. He liked to prance, prancing was cool.

'You know; I hate saying so-- but boy am I hungry. We should recruit a cook. Can you cook?'

Spook said, in the most utter form of banter if banter had a form.

She wasn't bloodthirsty enough to say she came here to kill all of these guys, but whether or not they lived or died was of no consequence in the grand scheme of things... She did ensure the strongest ones met their end, usually the other grunts do nothing more than follow orders of their higher ups. The two of them had obliterated both sides of the skirmish, and with that done there was nothing left to threaten what remained of this tiny village. She thanked him with a nod, wiping the blood off her scavenged arrows and returning the cloth to him. He did found a fair measure of Beli among his own kills, in the end both Pirates went back to their ship a good bit richer. Linnea intended to sell off some of the guns she scavenged too, other revs would probably buy those off her anyways... But as they walked back to the ship, the spearman asked a rather important questions regarding their meals:

"I can.", she answered with a somewhat confident smile, but promptly explained her limitations, "We won't starve to death, but I'm not as good as a real cook; so that's certainly a good idea. We'd best be on a lookout..."

Linnea had yet to run into any cook worth mentioning, especially one who might be willing to leave his life behind to join up with a crew of pirates. But if they were gonna carve their name on the Grand Line, they had to be healthy and a good part of being healthy was eating right. Though she had to survive in the wilderness by herself more often than not - needing a bare minimum of cooking skill - she didn't know how to make her food tasty unless she grilled it on a stick...

"We could just eat out somewhere, with all the money we just made.", she shurgged as she tugged her beli pouch, making a rather soothing *ka-ching*

Spook nodded, they had food and Linnea could most likely cook basic stuff. Spook wasn't eccentric enough to eat expensive food every day of his life, so basic food; like scrambled eggs; basic soups, weren't very unappetizing to him. He once killed a few soldiers for a chocolate bar, which was one of his more odd endeavors.

'Very well madame, I hope I can enjoy some of your cooking some other time, let's go to a place near the docks. They have good coffee, I reckon you might enjoy it as much as I do.'

Spook said, as he began to prance towards to their ship some more. He wanted to leave his stuff at the ship, take a shower to clean the dried up blood off his hands and put on some new clothing. After arriving he tossed his spear into his quarters, rather somewhat dangerously. He then took a dive into the sea, being too lazy to set up the warm water for a shower he just soaped himself and dove into the sea. After a bit of swimming he swam out of the water and put on new clothing.

'I'm ready to go'

He said, leaving the boat, presumably with Naga had she joined him. The diner he had in mind served some great food, food he would most likely miss after leaving for the grand line. But, perhaps, at the grandline, at paradise in particular there would be much better food. It wasn't really a thought he had considered. After getting back to the ship, Spook was all ready to set sail.
