"First day of training camp." Allen reminded himself, grinning at his uniform. He was beyond excited to begin training with the marines, he just knew once they saw what he was capable of, he was going to be at the head of his class. It wasn't going to be any trouble at all for him to waltz to the head of his class at all, or so he thought. "Or rather, I should say, the first day of the rest of my life." He added with a determined grin.

Not that Allen was discrediting any of the other marines, he just had a burning passion and an undying determination to be the greatest. He had to do well, there was no other choice. His foster father was wrong about him, he was going to be a great admiral one day. Even if just to spite him.

Allen got dressed and quickly made his way to the yard. There were already a few people around waiting, but he was still pretty early. He decided it was in his best interest to do a bit of stretching before they got started, so as soon as he was close enough to hear the others, he sat down and started stretching out his legs and arms. He was still pretty loose from training yesterday, but he still wanted to be extra careful. The last thing he wanted to do was to get some rookie to overpower him because his body was tightened up.

Others began to funnel into the yard, about 10 other recruits beside himself, and a number of higher ranked officials wanting to see what the new class of recruits had to offer. Allen smiled, eager to impress them and prove himself. His fighting style was going to blow them away, he just knew it. The others were going to be impressed as well. He was confident in himself, but hopeful that the other recruits might be a challenge as well. After all, how can he prove himself against a weak opponent?

"Bring it in, recruits!" A stern looking man with a mustache barked. "Looks like we got some promise here today, but it's not going to be easy. Ordinarily, the most we accept is half of an incoming class, but considering the strength I see among you, I think that a few of you, even if eliminated today, might still have hope for moving on up."

Allen nodded, but he had no intention of being anything less than the best. If they wanted to accept anything less than that, it was up to them. He wasn't going to be having it. The man with the mustache introduced himself as Captain Luther. Allen thought he seemed like a reasonably pleasant guy. He didn't seem at all formidable and harsh, he was rather stern but supportive.

He explained to them the purpose of today's trial, and how it was going to go down. Each of them would face off one on one with another student, then face a second trial of a 3-way battle. Allen was sure the purpose was to test their mettle and their fighting prowess, as well as testing their ability to perform when outnumbered.

Allen's first opponent didn't seem like he really understood what was going on. He gave the Captain a very confused look when his name was called. The drool on his lip made it pretty clear that he'd been sleeping. Allen sighed and stared at the guy with a rather disappointed look in his eyes. "One of the most important days of some of our lives, and this guy was sleeping."

It baffled him how someone could take this so lightly. He understood that there was a potential of second chances, but it didn't guarantee them at all. The whole 'second chance' bit seemed like a maybe. You still had to perform well today, it just meant you didn't have to actually win. Allen grit his teeth, finding himself rather irritated with how stupid his opponent was being.

Allen readied himself, and waited for the signal to go. He stood, waiting for what seemed like an eternity. The Captain and the others were just standing there, watching. Allen smirked, "In a real fight, nobody tells you when the fight begins or ends." He explained to himself before rushing forward. He brought his left hand back and formed the usual Dragon-clawed grip. He brought his hand forward, striking hard at the drowsy fools chest.

The blow hit, and the guy rolled on his heels before flopping into the dirt, his eyes rolled back in his head. The onlookers were astonished, but Allen just gave him a strange look. "I didn't even hit him hard, I was just pissed that he wasn't taking this seriously." He explained, rubbing his forehead. He was still pretty irritated, and now he didn't have anyone to take it out on. If anything, it gave him a moment to cool down, but he didn't exactly like how they were going on about it being an impressive win. He felt as though it was  a disappointment. He felt like he was a disappointment. Still, he had time to really prove himself to in the second stage of today's exercise.

Allen's next opponents had both won their first fight, so he was hopeful that they would be good fights. The Captain however, had his doubts that anyone here would be any match for him, so he asked Allen to take it easy. Really? Take it easy? He was so frustrated now, but the Captain promised him there'd be more of a challenge tomorrow. What a pain in the neck. He couldn't believe it, but then again, looking at the sniveling lot they had here, he'd hate to see what the marines considered 'bad potential'.

To be fair, it probably wasn't their faults. They didn't have the drive and the motivation the Allen did. They probably just recently decided they wanted to be marines. He on the other hand had been working at it day and night for the last 4 years. He was going to be the greatest, and he was going to make sure everyone knew that. Take it easy? Alright. He'd take it easy. He'd let them get a few swings in first.

They were called up to show down, or rather for Allen he was called up to show off. Allen readied himself and both of the others charged at him, both swinging right for his face. He ducked to the side and swatted their hands away. He let out a growl as he brought up his knee and caught one of them in the stomach. The kid doubled over in pain, but the other boy was still determined. He brought another hard punch into Allen's face, smashing right into his nose. Allen reeled back for a moment before laying a very wicked glare at the boy.

"Obsidian Claw!" He howled, his left hand forming the claw grip and shooting forward, smashing into the boy's rib cage. The kid, actually a few years older than Allen, let out a hellish whine. He screamed like he was going to die, but he didn't even get hit anywhere vital. Besides, he held back or the claw would have went through him. Weaklings like him didn't deserve to be in the Marines.
