Hoshikita Cross
Hoshikita watched the horizon closely as he kept an eye out for any sign of the island that they were set to dock at. He had been assigned, along with a division of Marines from Base Seventeen, to reinforce the troops of a Marine base on a small unnamed island. Apparently, tensions between humans and fish men were at an all time high, and that particular area had become a hot spot for fish man activity. Marine higher ups had apparently become concerned that the island in question might soon be in danger, and had requested that the outpost be reinforced in preparation for such a scenario. Hoshikita himself hadn't been particularly keen to hear that fish men were the presumed enemy, as his one encounter with the species had not been entirely pleasant. He still had the scars to show for it, after a particularly violent eel fish man had taken a bite out of his soldier while he'd been out on patrol. Still, his usual commanding officer Captain Maria had also been assigned to the outpost, so Hoshikita would at least be able to rely on her if things did actually turn for the worst.

Before long, the boat had reached the small dock on the western side of the island where the outpost was located and everyone began disembarking under Commander Maria's orders. They were to be given one hour to familiarize themselves with their surroundings before reporting back for further orders. Hoshikita was particularly glad to hear such a command, and happily sauntered off towards the outpost to start exploring. It was a small encampment, only having three somewhat large buildings and two watch towers on opposite sides of the camp, as well as some rather cheaply constructed walls and a few dozen Marines already stationed there. Hoshikita wondered if it might not be better to be stationed at an out of the way place like this rather than the comparably large and busy Base Seventeen. It certainly seemed like it might be a bit more relaxing, and Hoshikita hoped that at least this temporary reinforcement would last a while before they encountered any sort of fish man aggression. Then, not wanting to spend his whole hour walking around, he found a comfortably discreet and shady spot to sit down and relax near one of the watch towers. He'd have to report to Captain Maria before long, but until then he could at least take it easy.

At least the marines hadn't had to travel to their destination in silence. As the ship slowly came into dock, the sweet sound of a violin filled the air. Anton sat quietly, perched on the side of the ship, his eyes closed as he played. While the other marines were busy getting themselves ready, they had decided to leave the red head be. After all, going to battle was tense enough, and going to fight fishmen, who were stronger than humans by nature, was even worse. The sweet music actually helped to ease the tension, allowed them to collect themselves and properly prepare themselves.

However, the little concert had to come to an end. The music ended abruptly when a marine tapped Anton on the shoulder, causing him to jump in surprise. After being told that they were disembarking, the well dressed marine groaned and nodded. He disliked fighting, and now he was bring thrown into what could be a very, VERY dangerous battle. Why couldn't they have sent him to a nice, peaceful location? Sometimes Anton cursed the perfectionism he displayed during his training. At least he was able to bring his violin.

Making sure he had everything (which mainly included his violin and sword), Anton La'croix stepped off of the boat along with the rest of the division. They had been ordered to familiarize themselves with their surroundings before receiving future orders. To be honest, Anton was not too confident about the set up. Rather small and seemingly quickly put together. This was supposed to repel fishmen? THEY were supposed to repel fishmen?

"Why me?" Anton whined to himself, letting out a despair filled sigh. The other marines seemed to take no notice, probably used to the man's cowardly nature by now. Anton glanced over, noticing a lieutenant lazing down by a tree. It looked so good to be able to relax in a situation like this.

Stepping off the gangplank, Adamantune stretched. Suddenly he felt fresh again. There was something about long journeys via ship that got him tired every so often. Taking in a deep breath, he marched forward, also taking in the camp around him. The atmosphere was thick, not with heat, but Adamantune felt the tension in the air. Understandable, as versus the fishmen, the largely human Marines were fighting a seemingly uphill battle. The camp had been awaiting the reinforcements who had just arrived, so activity began to pick up, Adamantune observed. Being a fairly new recruit, Adamantune Dasnet was not entirely sure what exactly to do with the time given unto him to prepare for the battle ahead.

Unlike the others, ensign Dasnet came equipped with weapons, and was ready at any time to bring them out. Well, I say weapons, but he only has Riptide, a gun that shoots bursts of darts. Nonetheless, he was ready. No orders came through for him, so he figured he could explore the encampment. Adamantune began to stroll through the camp, gazing at the other officers around him, running to and fro, none paying any particular heed to the cyborg. He actually felt it was kind of funny, the way all the passersby had this look of absolute terror in their eye. Never having had been in a confrontation with a fishman, ensign Dasnet was curious, to say the least. He really was itching to fight one.

He could wait, though. Suddenly noticing there was a body next to his feet, Adamantune jumped. Then, noticing who it was, he jumped again,

Ah, your pardon, Captain! He called, saluting. At least, Dasnet thought he was a captain. Why else would the guy just be lounging around?

War. War never changes. Just the same ol tale since the dawn of man... and fishman apparently. Two or more opposing groups get upset over whatever; now instead of coming up with a smart solution that can benefit all parties, they just kill each other and claim to be the victim, or the hero. This goes on until one side wins and changes history to match their idealistic retelling of what actually happened. This is not the case. Apparently the Fishmen received an invitation from a Yonko saying "Gain a higher bounty than Wallace D. Rose of 400m and gain a spot on my crew!" Now, first off let's explain why the Fishmen are idiots for accepting this. A bounty of over 400m is very high, like a direct threat to world government high. Like, you have an entire task force looking for you. If you're this notorious, why join a Yonko, instead of just running your own crew and continue to gain a reputation for yourself?! Silly goose. But, like it was stated before, it's not Kouhei's place to ask question, just give answers.

Speaking of the devil, a small row boat with three Marines appear. Two are in full Marine gear, armed with their basic rifles. The third laying on his back with a marine cap on his face, sleep. Kouhei, the misguided marine bounty hunter had been super relaxed for a man about to enter a battle. With his gun "The Last Word" attached to his hip, and his "Boomstix" resting on his right side, he came prepared. These two random grunts were sent as backup for him, but got stuck rowing the boat. "Sir, we're here." One says, tapping the man awake.

"Eh?" Kou says, rising up and looking around. He wipes the crust out of his eyes and yawns, noticing they are in fact on the island. "Goodjob boys, now the real fun begins." He says, strapping his shotgun to his back. Once the small boat docks, the three split up, with the two grunts going to join the other non-important fodder, and Kou looking for any higher ups. The town was quite interesting. It had a different tone than most islands, kinda a retro Victorian feel to it. He honestly wondered if the place had up to date technology, hopefully so. He notices a large cloak tower and kinda admires the simplicity of it, but the honest feel it gives off. After exploring for a while he finds himself near one of the watchtowers, and takes notice of a man chilling; a familiar looking man that is. "Hey Lt. Hoshikita, what's up man?" Kouhei says approaching the relaxing guy, not trying to disrupt his peace. Another guy is also noticed, this guy was saluting, so Kouhei followed suit as to not to get in trouble. "Who are we saluting and why?" he asks, almost jokingly. Obviously the man doesn't want to get in trouble, but his personality was far too lax to take this seriously.

(enters with all gear: "the last word" "boomstix" and the ammo for both)

Hoshikita Cross
As Hoshikita was chilling out under a shady tree, he watched as the other Marines went about their duties somewhat frantically, many of them appearing frightened or nervous. The young lieutenant could understand such feelings, and he remembered back to some of his first assignments and how apprehensive he had been himself. He was so caught up in reminiscing about his not so distant past that he didn't notice another Marine walk right up next to him. It wasn't until the stranger jumped in surprise, and Hoshikita turned quickly to see what had just happened so close to him. He scrambled back for a moment, a bit shocked at the sudden appearance of the man, and at his strange appearance as well. The man seemed to be covered in metal, which Hoshikita assumed to be some kind of armor, but he was also wearing a standard Marine uniform over the armor, which the young lieutenant thought was a rather odd fashion choice. He was saluting, and Hoshikita heard him apologizing and referring to him as Captain. The long legged man was only getting more confused, and he figured he ought to straighten things out. Getting up to his feet, and standing several feet above the metallic man before him, he spoke up. "No pardon necessary, my friend. I'm just a Lieutenant, no different from any other ensign as long as the Captain's around." He said in a relaxed tone, suggesting that he was perfectly fine not being burdened with any extra authority. "Lieutenant Hoshikita Cross, Seventeenth Branch. I assume you're one of the guys who was already stationed here?" He asked curiously, interested in making some small talk with another Marine while he awaited more orders from the Captain.

While he was conversing with the man who had seemingly approached him on accident, he heard someone calling out his name. He looked over to see a somewhat familiar face, remembering the person as Kouhei; a younger marine who he had met while he was on leave in the Briss Kingdom. As he was approaching, Hoshikita replied in his usual lazy way of speaking. "Ahoy, Kouhei. Didn't expect to see you here. I was just talking with our comrade here, got assigned to reinforce this outpost with my branch." He explained, assuming that he would already be aware of the recent fish man activity and not thinking it important to mention. Kouhei then asked about the salute that the other man had given earlier, and Hoshikita thought it would be better to let him explain himself. As the three were conversing, the young lieutenant made mental notice of how peaceful the atmosphere was and he had a quick and sobering thought about the calm before the storm. That thought turned out to be some sort of coincidental premonition however, as almost as soon as it had crossed his mind he heard thunder crack in the distance. Followed by that thunderous boom, a loud whooping alarm sounded across the base from a large installed sound dial. Hoshikita jumped up a bit in surprise, but quickly remembered what they were here for. That alarm almost certainly meant the fishmen had been spotted and that they'd likely begun their attack.

Aton watched quietly as two more people came to approach the long legged lieutenant. A man covered in metal, and another young red headed man. It seemed like they all knew eachother, or at least two of them did anyway. Anton couldn't help but feel a little envious. He didn't know anybody here. He never really made any friends during his training. Most people seemed to avoid him. Granted, his tendency to complain didn't really help his chances either. Still, it would have been nice to have someone to talk to in these tense times.

Then it came, the loud crack followed by the alarm blaring throughout the base. Was it really happening now? So soon after getting off the boat? Anton thought there would be more time. Didn't the captain give them an hour? This was insane. The fearful man jumped at the loud noise, grabbing his large sword in both hands, getting ready for the incoming violence.

"Why couldn't they have just waited?" he murmured to himself, his eyes shifting around, waiting for any sign of the fishmen amongst the frightened marines. "Just a little bit longer? Heck, couldn't they have attacked some other island, far away from here?" In his rambling, Anton hadn't noticed that he was unconciously backing towards the small group of marines by the tree.

Geeh?! Not a captain? Dasnet jumped again, taken aback both by the revelation and appearance of the other Marine who knew the rank of the lounging officer yet still saluted him all how he did. Well, the guy was still a higher ranked officer, so I guess the saluting was not entirely unwarranted. Lieutenant Hoshikita, the man who had been lounging on the ground, but now was towering over Adamantune. Kouhei, the ensign(?) who was fooling around. He had a feeling, one he was defining as a 'vague chill', which prompted him to feel as though he was being watched. Or it was that he had an itch at the back of his neck.

Ah, I just came in myself, sir. He said to Hoshikita, opting to ignore Kouhei's antics. Taking a furtive glance around himself, he ran a finger over the back of his neck. Yeah, he had an itchy neck, that was it. A sigh of relief escaping from his lips, his ears were attacked by the sound of an ear splitting shrill of an alarm. He, in reflex, covered his ears as he looked around, searching for where to go to defend the camp. Or where to go to start the attack. He failed to remember which sound belonged to which command to follow. A red headed character was walking backwards, with steps that looked uncertain, like it was fear controlling them. Because Lt. Hoshikita was the closest higher ranked officer around, ensign Dasnet decided he would follow that man's orders. Hopefully the guy would get serious during a time like this.

"Ah, I forgot you're freakishly tall..." Kouhei says about his long legged associate, cracking a grin. "I bet you won every single basketball game in school, that or you were banned. Quick and weird question, how to you have sex with short girls?" the Marine rambles to Hoshi kinda chuckling, but fully joking. This other guy kinda seemed tight assed, maybe a couple jokes would open him up. But that really had to wait, a large thunderous noise ruptured through air, causing a frown to appear on Kouhei's once relaxed face. Following up the loud noise came an alarm, this must have meant the fishmen were beginning their attack.

"Guess the fun begins boys." Kou says, drawing his pistol from his hip and twirling it with his index finger at waist level. Before Kou could dash off all hero like, another man appeared, holding a sword and backing up towards the trio. He was about 3 meters away from the group, Kou didn't really understand why he was backing up towards them so he took a step back as well, watching him in case he fainted or starting wailing his sword around in fear of the enemy or something weird. "Hey Hoshi, you seem to be the highest ranking person here, we'll follow your lead." The man says, ready to engage the enemies in combat. It hasn't been too long since Kouhei had been in a fight, but this certainly was his first "battle". He'd never been in anything this large scaled before, just hunting random bounties or "keeping the peace". A certain excitement is only guaranteed in cases like this, but also a fear. Fear comes with excitement though, it keeps you alive from doing foolish things or acting rash. So, hopefully, his allies had at least a little fear with them as well; this way, they'll all be able to come home safely.

After receiving a shocked reply and explanation from the armored Marine at his side, and giving a nervous laugh when questioned on his methods for laying with smaller women. "That's a question prolly better suited for my dad." He said with a laugh, trying to deflect the query away from himself. It was almost a relief when the alarm rang and cut their conversation short; almost. The rest of the Marines looked panicked, and having not received orders yet, some of them seemed unsure of what to do. Hoshikita used his higher vantage point to try and catch a glimpse of Captain Maria or Commander Burrel, but to no avail. He tried to recall the Marine protocol for what to do in such a situation, and he froze for a moment without knowing what to do himself. Kouhei spoke up, referencing that he was the highest ranked person in the immediate area and that he'd follow Hoshikita's lead. Still, the young Lieutenant was completely unsure of what to do. The sharp scream of a woman cut through the air and thawed Hoshikita's thoughts instantly though, and a realization made itself apparent in his mind. First and foremost, the Marines were tasked with the protection of innocent civilians, and at that moment, the safety of everyone on the island was in jeopardy.

Hoshikita rose up and stood straight above everyone, and a spark of determination flared up in the young Marine's eye. Just as he was about to speak up however, another voice demanded attention up above. The proud and beautiful figure of Captain Maria stood atop the guard tower, her long pink locks flowing in the harsh winds, and her sharp voice rang out across the outpost. "Ready yourselves men, we engage the enemy now! No time for rest, the fish men just made land on the other side of the island!" She cried out, causing Hoshikita to back down a bit. He had just been ready to say such a thing himself, but he guessed that she had said it better. Rather than using his earlier determination to rally the men, he figured he might as well lead the charge. He was the Lieutenant after all, and he truly did want to help the people in the town.

"You heard her, fellas." Hoshikita remarked loudly, trying to gather the attention of the several marines around him. "Time to engage the enemy." He continued, pulling his Marine cap down low over his head. He noticed that a particular red haired Marine, and several other ensigns in the area, were rather nervous about the order so he thought to say something to bolster their confidence. "Stick with me men, as proud Marines we've gotta show them what we've got. There's some people out their who need our help." He finished, attempting to show as much conviction in his words as he could muster. Hoshikita hoped that would be enough to give the men some morale and have them follow him, but whether or not they did, after a moment he'd turn around and give the signal for moving in before heading off towards the city himself. Several civilians rushed past to get into the camp as everyone spoke, so there wasn't much time to lose at all.

Here it was, the time for battle. Anton was still frightened down to the core, but he knew what he had to do. They weren't just fighting the fishmen for the sake of it. They were fighting to protect the people of this island. Despite his fear, he knew he couldn't run away. He wouldn't run away. Even though he was a lowly chief petty officer, Anton would give everything he had...even if it wasn't much.

The long legged lieutenant spoke up, trying to rally the nervous marines to him. Anton gulped and nodded. At least he wasn't going through this alone. He glanced over at the other two with him, the large metal man and the man in the black coat. Anton had a feeling that he should stick with these three. They seemed like they knew what they were doing, and he had a feeling it was safest with them.

As the lieutenant took off towards the city, Anton took a deep breath. There was no sense in holding back. He closed his eyes and slowly the young man began to change. His legs lengthened, his knees bending completely backwards as small spine grew on the back. His skin too on a chitinous quality, changing from skin toned to a light green. A secondary set of arms seemed to sprout out of his torso under his regular pair, the fingers flexing in a testing manner. Finally, a pair of antennae sprung up from under the man's hair. The other marines around him looked on in surprise. They hadn't expected one of their own, let alone the timid man, to possess a devil fruit, let alone one so unusual. Anton took a deep breath, getting used to his new form. Gripping his sword in both hands, he took off after the lieutenant, his now lengthened stride allowing him to keep up with him.

The voice drifting across the airwaves commanded the present marines to head off the fishmen. Whomever she was, Lt. Hoshikita seemed to want to follow her orders. Even the guy who had seemed unsure of himself was prancing on behind the tall lieutenant as his Zoan transformation. Adamantune stole a quick glance at Kouhei, then followed the other two towards the fishmen. He could not use a sword. Swords felt strange in his hand, like he was holding toothpicks. In terms of weaponry, he preferred guns. Guns went boom. Swords did skiiii. Whatever that said about him, Adamantune felt that boom was cooler than skiiii.

Ah, this may not be the best time, but I am ensign Dasnet. He called out to his comrades in arms It's a pleasure -net.

Raising his right arm, mid-stride, he revealed Riptide from within his arm, ready to be shot at a moment's notice. Or not, who knew, maybe the fishmen had a trap set up for them. An ambush, or a back attack. He continued to jog just behind the lieutenant and the grasshopper zoanthrope, wary of anywhere in his sight-lines.

"Ready yourselves men, we engage the enemy now! No time for rest, the fish men just made land on the other side of the island!" Shouted the woman commander that Hoshi apparently followed. Kouhei was, for the most part, isolated from the marines. He was given his own task force to hunt pirates and revolutionaries, so he was always traveling, rarely on any base. But he did know all the people he was required to know, all the higher ups that he had to salute and take orders from at any minute. Her little speech seemed to raise the morale of the cowardly other redheaded guy, with him now transforming into some un-Godly creature. This caused Kouhei to jump back about 10 steps and grip his gun, still holding it waist level. "What the fuck is that?!" He screams, eyes widened and mouth open. This dude transformed into some type of insect... a grasshopper! Hoshi dashed off, probably to not only attack the fishmen, but get away from this demonic looking giant bugman. Really at this point Kou questioned if he even wanted to still partake in this event. He didn't understand why God would allow anyone to transform into a grasshopper. What a cursed Zoan Fruit this poor man had obtained, but truly, he deserved his horrible fate, because he CHOSE to transform. The man understood this form probably brought forth new powers, but you have to ask yourself is it truly worth it? Is being a horror to the eyes of children indeed worth it? Is never being able to lay with a woman truly worth it? Is being ridiculed by all for the rest of your sad life really worth it? In this man's case, it must be.

As the metal man follows the two, Kou readies his gun and takes off behind the three, staying at least 2 meters behind so he can guard the rear. All the fleeing civilians see this beastly grasshopper man and scream louder, with some actually run back towards the fishman attack. Kou figured they'd rather die to a fish than a giant bug, but eventually they get over this fear and continue running away with the others. Seeing marines should help ease the minds of the scared civilians. Kouhei was nice enough to wear his "marine uniform" so he hoped these people knew exactly what side he was on.

Hoshikita had started off towards the town, slowing from his top speeds so as not to lose the rest of the group but still keeping ahead. It seemed along with Kouhei, the armored Marine, and the red haired marine, there were sixteen men in all who had gathered around Hoshikita before he began his charge and they all seemed to be quite motivated as they followed behind. There was one other Marine who was keeping up with him however, and when the young marine spotted his form out of the corner of his eye he gave a start. He could still tell that it was the red haired boy from before, but his whole body was completely different. Hoshikita couldn't help but be a bit repulsed by the Marine's transformed appearance, and not being particularly familiar with devil fruits, he didn't make the connection of this power being the result of one. Wanting to keep a bit more distance from the now chitinous Marine, Hoshikita picked up his pace a bit to try and gain just a bit more ground without losing the rest of the group. He felt fairly certain that they would not run into any of the enemy this far from their landing point as from what the young lieutenant had been informed, the fish men were motivated by mainly greed and attacking the Marine outpost probably hadn't been on their top list of priorities. Hoshikita wondered where Captain Maria had gone after giving her orders, but he pressed onward despite feeling a bit nervous without the presence of his Commanding officer. He couldn't show any weakness in front of the others, as he didn't want to lower any one else's morale before the battle had even started.

Hoshikita heard the armor clad marine's voice call out a rushed introduction as ensign Dasnet. "It's a pleasure. We'll all get properly acquainted after we see this through!" He called out, now seeing lines of smoke rising into the sky. He could only assume that those fires were the work of the fish men, and Hoshikita could tell that they would have to work fast. They'd already crossed the midpoint of the island, and they were delving farther and farther into the eastern side when Hoshikita first saw a group of about a dozen fish men of various types crushing the walls of nearby buildings and terrorizing the civilians. Several more innocents rushed past the group of Marines, hope in their eyes as they passed them, although Hoshikita could see a bit of timidness towards the grasshopper like Marine in the group. The young lieutenant stopped in his charge for a moment once the civilians seemed to have moved past and it was only them and the fish men. Several of the Pirates looked towards them, but Hoshikita quickly moved to attack.

Without warning, Hoshikita let loose a powerful side kick that careened through the air and created a powerful wind blade that sliced through the air towards the aquatic enemies. Three of them were sliced clean across the gut before a swordfish fish man stepped forth and dispersed the attack with his nose. Everything had happened rather quickly, and in case the other Marines hadn't already, Hoshikita gave the order to move in. "Charge!" He yelled, dashing forward himself and beginning to lash out at the group of fish men with a flurry of kicks as some of the other Marines joined the fray as well. The group outnumbered the fish men for now, but there was no telling how long that fact would remain true. There were fires popping all up around the city, and Hoshikita wasn't sure how much their small group could manage. He could only hold faith that Captain Maria and the other commanding officers knew what they were doing.

The reaction to Anton's hybrid form was immediate. The other red head in the group had reacted in shock, almost drawing a gun on him, and even the lieutenant was repulsed by his appearance. Hell, many of the citizens were frightened by him, though thankfully their fear of the fishmen overrode that, keeping them from running into danger. It was enough to Anton self conscious. It wasn't like he chose to eat this fruit. Someone had slipped it into his food during training as a joke. Almost caused him to drown during a swimming exercise as well.

Still, this form was his best bet for fighting in, and he would use it. They finally caught up to the fishmen, a group of rough and monstrous looking things. He watched as the lieutenant sent some sort of air slash at the group, injuring some of them before giving the order to charge. Anton took a deep breath and let out a cry as he kept up into the air, flying towards the pirates. A manta ray fishman watched in shock before the grasshopper zoan crashed down atop of him like some sort of missile, the others back away to avoid the incoming marine. Anton wasted now time, his eyes shut tight in fear as he began swinging his sword wildly, no real target in mind. The fishmen were keeping their distance, smart enough to stay out of the wild blade's range.

Suddenly, the fishman Anton had been standing on shifted. Fishmen were four times stronger than humans, and Anton's hybrid form wasn't that much heavily than his regular form. Anton yelped as he was knocked off of his feet, crashing into another fishman, who's body seemed to suddenly expand like a balloon. A puffer fish fishman. Anton was knocked back again, knocking into another one, knocking him to the ground. Anton quickly regained his footing and resumed his wild flailing.

"GoawaygoawaygoawayGOAWAY!" he shrieked out. The fishmen were keeping back, clearly disturbed by this obviously insane grasshopper man.
